Well, I won't defend $750 tickets. That's ridiculous. The Eagles do shit like that too, and fuck them both for it.
As for the albums I listed, I think they're all top tier. As well as pre-Taylor albums like Out of Our Heads, Aftermath, Between The Buttons, and Beggar's Banquet. Let It Bleed was mainly Keith playing all the parts, Taylor only appears on one or two tracks (and the non-album single Honky Tonk Women).

I paid $250 per ticket to see The Stones on the Bigger Bang tour for seats midway up in a stadium. That is easily the most I've paid to sit so far back (I've paid more per ticket for Bowie, but those were for the pit). However, I can say with certainty that at no point did it feel like a nostalgia act. It was an amazing, amazing show. Metallica opened for them and The Stones completely knocked them out of the park.
And it was a great show, and it didn't feel like a bunch of old geezers putting on a nostalgia act for an easy paycheck.
The opening act was Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

.
Also curious as to whether Mick Taylor was invited to play. I mean, in essence, the band really hasn't been the Stones since he left. He had a huge hand in their most productive and creative period (Beggars - Goats Head Soup). Ron Wood really isn't even in the same league, in my humble opinion, of course.

I saw the Stones for free at Staples Center in 2001 on Halloween night. I don't even recall how my dad got the tickets, but he gave my friend & I two of them... located above the stage, to the left, with an obstructed view. Great.
I figured we could do better, so we snuck all the way down to front row near the stage. We sat in front of Jeffrey Jones. I gushed to him about Ravenous, he told me about seeing the Stones on acid back in the day.
The next day he got arrested for child porn.

I agree the prices are insane, but it's a 50 year reunion "tour". I doubt these guys are even up for anything resembling even an actual 30 date world tour or anything. Can't be easy going out there at their age.
BTW, I surprisingly really like the new song. Pretty good stuff.

I love the Stones, a lot, and have no doubt they put on a hell of a show, still. However, this "tour" seems like a rather dick move and slap in the face on their part. Most fans are going to be left out in the cold, due to not only the number of tix available, but also the hefty prices involved. $750??? Really? Eff you Jager. They should rather be going all out or not do anything at all.
As far as being a nostalgia act, I would say any band coming out to just celebrate a number without any new solid material is what defines a nostalgia act. Again, I'm sure its a fun time, but them saying come pay big bucks to hear our greatest hits collection just confirms my point.
Lastly, yeah, I have and thoroughly enjoy all the albums you mentioned, but they're second tier Stones albums. The Mick Taylor era contains the gems that define the Stones (not that he was singly responsible for them). The glitter twins are obviously the center of the band, but they didn't produce anything near the level they were when working with Taylor after he left. I'm just bummed he's not being included.

Glimmer, and the Taylor years were their high point.

I think those 750 buck tickets are the VIP package. Theres no way they are just a seat. I hoping if I just try for 1 ticket in the 90 range I'll luck out.

Re: GRRR! The Rolling Stones announce greatest hits album 11/13/12
I agree. The last tour the highest tier seats were the ones incorporated into the actual stage (the girders above and slightly behind the band), so those have to be something along that line, along with trinkets like the CD set and a dinner, not something most people would even want. I paid $163 for front row at Fenway last tour and while I know they won't be that reasonable again, I'm hoping for no more than double for decent seats.

But I will say, I'd rather give the band $750 for a ticket than some dickless scalper.

Re: GRRR! The Rolling Stones announce greatest hits album 11/13/12
Tickets are $90 or $750. Nothing in between. If the whole house is $90 and $750 is just the front section, that's great, but I doubt it. Roger Waters was getting several hundred a ticket for seats in the middle of the floor. I can't see them missing out on a cash grab like this.
But I will say, I'd rather give the band $750 for a ticket than some dickless scalper.

Ticketmaster must have been updated. When I checked (right after the announcement), there were only two prices. I humbly stand corrected.
But I still ain't going! And I stand by my statement about dickless scalpers too

I've seen the Stones twice in the past, so passing on this event isn't a big deal for me. I will always have great memories of the concerts I did attend.
... and Grrr! is exactly my reaction to this redundant greatest hits collection!

Really not all that interested in getting this due to having most of their cd's already. Dug out from the archives a few nights ago some cd's, including Sticky Fingers. Reunited & loved hearing Can't you hear me Knocking, especially the ending with the sax and Taylor's guitar lick solo to end it. Hadn't heard that song in years. Sounded sweet and bitchin.

Would love to go but I won't be in the states at that point.
Wonder if I will ever see them live.

Re: Tour............No Brian Jones = No Sale.
Actually, Jones probably looks about as good as Keith Richards or Ron Wood right now.
Two observations:
(1) Why do ultra-successful one-percenter millionaire musicians who have seen their best days decades ago insist on such price-gouging moves? I'm all for capitalism & they have every right to add to their considerable wealth, but how many of us in the same position would not do a reasonably-priced tour for the fans (especially since this will likely be the last tour for some of the band since they either won't be around or won't be able to do another one in a few years)? They've done the huge, expensive things before...why not do a stripped-down stage version without all of the frills and just jam out for the crowd? As one poster said, they're pretty much a glorified nostalgia act at this point, and most people are either going just to say they've been to a Stones concert or wanting to see them for the last time together.
Their lean & hungry days are long past & they've enjoyed the fruits of their labors for years, so why not go out & have fun and give the fans a bargain? Instead of looking like greedy old misers, they could have left an impression of some generous guys who want to give back. They'd still be making a mint compared to the working stiffs who came to see them. This rather pathetic move reminds me of people who lived through the Great Depression who hoarded food because they were afraid they'd go hungry again.
With all of the concert films available from pretty much every phase of their careers save the early days, I'd think most people would just wait for the concert to show up on cable or DVD.
(2) Seeing this kind of nonsense (both the umpteenth Hits collection & the ridiculously-overpriced tour) makes me glad that some of my favorite artists never made it huge in the mainstream. For instance, Richard Thompson (contemporary of the Stones) keeps putting out relevant music every year or so, and you can still see him for around $30 and sit about 10 feet from the stage. Rather than give money to past heroes, great as they were, I'd rather support the people who continue to create great, original music.

Re: GRRR! The Rolling Stones announce greatest hits album 11/13/12
well, the best answer is that the Stones charge what they do because they can. They're not lean, hungry musicians anymore, they're seventy year old guys who probably hate each others guts and would rather be lounging in their mansions than touring on the road. That's their right. I think a lot of musicians would do the same thing if that were an option to them. To those who don't like it or can't afford it, don't go. For example : I do very well and am a big fan of The Eagles. I could certainly afford those $250 Eagles tickets and they've come to Vegas several times recently, but I keep passing on their shows since they charge too much for me. They have a high standard of what they expect to get paid to perform together, and I respect that even if it's too rich for my blood. I don't complain about it; that's just the way it is.
The reality is that if the headliner charges far less than his true value for tickets (and Springsteen and Pearl Jam come to mind as artists who do just that), then all that's going to happen is that the tickets will get snapped up right away and the true value of the tickets will be reflected in the secondary market instead. Honestly, I'd rather have Don Henley and Mick Jagger see the immense profits of their performances than have it go to some asshole scalper on Stub Hub.
