Carly Rae Jepsen Call Me Maybe and her career

Do you absolutely despise this song or you in the millions who love it and probably bought it from Itunes or made a parody video like the US Olympic team?

One hit wonder or will she be joining Rihanna, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Carrie Underwood etc and have a successful music career?

Her new song "This Kiss" sounds like it came from the 80's.

Is there any difference between Nicki Minaj and a one hit wonder?

Already not a one-hit wonder since her duet with Owl Cty, Good Time, is a hit.

^That could singlehandedly be the most insipidly awful pop song since the last most insipidly awful pop song.

She's a very pretty girl and she has a decent enough voice. With the right producers behind her, she could definitely have a career. I don't expect this particular song to set the world on fire though.

When in first heard "Call Me Maybe" i thought it was horrible, but tried to be a little forgiving because I figured she was 14 like Rebecca Black.

Then I found out she's nearly 30. Screw her, she should know better.

Do people even call anymore? It sounded like a dated song as soon as it came out.

Less dated than Maroon 5's "Payphone"

Call me Maybe got annoying as the summer went on, but I actually like "Good Time", its just a fun song.

Her voice aside, i think she has poor stage presence. Those moves were like something you see from the early rounds of Idol.

maybe she should be like the later stage Beatles, and just put out albums and not tour.

I'm not 14, and I don't listen to music aimed at 14 year-olds, so I don't really care. She can disappear, or be huge, it's all fine with me.

I'd like her more if she did porn.

Anyone else think she sounds like she should be a country singer, just based on her name?

I actually thought she WAS Rebecca Black. I kept hearing people talk about "Call Me Maybe" all summer, and I thought it was a Rebecca Black song. I didn't actually hear it until a recent thread where another poster got made fun of for never even having heard of it.

Very cute girl, but extremely mediocre songs.

Well, she is a former contestant on Canadian Idol. :)

I actually think her pre-fame sound was better. More unique, and now she just sounds like every Disney/Nickelodean teen pop star (despite being 26). But I guess she's a star now and wasn't before, so whatever works.

26 is "nearly 30" now?

I think she looks and sounds better now than that video from Canadian Idol. She doesnt even look like she could pass for 16.

In her style of music, 26 is nearly 50.

I'm probably not the one to ask since I thought Katy Perry would be a one-hit wonder with "I Kissed A Girl". The difference is that Katy's second single was "Hot & Cold" and it was immediately clear that, even if she wasn't a particularly strong vocalist, she had a supply of catchy songs that could be hits.
Based on that "This Kiss" song (which isn't even the best insipid pop song called "This Kiss"), I seriously doubt that for Carly Rae.

And I don't count "Good Time" since she's a guest vocalist on an Owl City song. That falls in the same category as Vanessa Carlton (remember her?) appearing on the Counting Crows single for "Big Yellow Taxi" -- it doesn't elevate her above one-hit wonder status (though sadly, it does for Owl City).

Hey, Grandpa, I had a stroke at 27 and I'm getting AARP membership packets at 33. 26 is old!

Also, I was too lazy to Google. But for the pop world she's basically Andrea Zuckerman.

I look forward to you guys explaining to the judge that the 14 year old you tried to woo was "nearly 18".

I know some people will be heartbroken they missed the 90210 premiere on CW where she performed "This Kiss."

I hated this song every time it would come on the radio. Then the music grew on me (not the singing, just the music). Of course I never heard it again after that.

True, but that could be said about pretty much any musician when they were just starting their career.
