Re: Jon Lord - R.I.P.
We got into Deep Purple when we first heard In Rock. They were a great band and he was a big part of their sound. I love Child in Time. A perfect mesh of keyboards, guitar and screaming.

Re: Jon Lord - R.I.P.

I rank Deep Purple in my "Top 5 All-Time Favorite Bands", Jon Lord being a main reason. He gave Deep Purple that signature sound that only he could pull off with an instrument not too popular among Hard Rock/Metal acts. Unforgettable, timeless songs that we've come to love and respect. I suppose Deep Purple would have still kicked ass, but without Jon Lord (with his use of keyboards and Hammond Organ) they would have been just another average Hard Rock band.
Thanks for the memories, Mr. Lord. You will be missed.
If Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are both in the "Rock & Roll Hall of Shame", why not Deep Purple? They should have been inducted years ago. If it takes a tragedy like this to wake up the officials at the Hall of Shame, it's a little too late; they have already dropped the ball. Respect the deserving musical group and give them their due while they are still living.

With all due respect to Mr. Lord and his family, a 71 year old man dying of natural causes is now considered a "tragedy"? It's called life and what happens at the end of it.

Ronnie and Jon Lord were friends and worked together a few times.
Even though Jon's been out of Purple for about a decade his presence is still felt every time they play a show or do an album. Don Airey basically is just filling Jon's role in the band (and doing a nice job of it).
