Promo CD Single from Ebay- fake???
 

Bought a pair of Katy Perry 'Firework' Remix Promo Singles from a seller in the UK. Auction did not picture actual disc, only front cover art. The discs arrived and I've noticed the following:

Discs have 'sticker-type' labels vs. directly printed on disc...

Discs are made with a burner vs. being factory pressed...

Discs are on generic MD80XXXX media from inner ring info...

Artwork is fuzzy/matte finish and looks like done with inkjet...

Upon review, the seller seems to have steady stock of these that he has moved of the past year...

Confirm my suspicions that these are homemade and not legit label promos...

I haven't bought any recent promos so I can't say that I know if the music industry has moved to this type of product given the cheapness of digital distribution...

i didn't know they made promo singles as a cd any more. usually its on itunes with a bunch of remixes

Doesn't sound promising. Go to discog.com and research it. I don't know which version you supposedly got but here's this one.

Its amazing how these guys selling these homemade promos get a 99% positive feedback. And yes if it has a sticker on the front of the disc it is fake.

How can they operate when the music industry is going after so many people who download? Do they just not care about physical bootlegs?

Click the cover image for more images of the disc. Based on the notes submitted to those Discogs entries, it looks like it's a fan-made compilation, rather than official promo.

Maybe they figure that physical bootlegs are okay because at least people are willing to pay for them.

With all of the <s>bootleg</s> ...er... "imports" floating around Amazon and eBay, they really don't seem to care.
