Lana Del Rey

A overrated flash in the pan or artist we should watch for the coming years?

Axl Rose is allegedly dating her so there must be something to her lol.

Everyone thought she was a trainwreck on SNL and there was a controversy she performed under a different name before she become Lana Del Rey

She keeps releasing singles and 120 minutes on MTV2 plays her videos.

I looked at the pictures before reading your post and I thought there was some creepy dude photo-bombing her in that last picture. Nope, that's Axl Rose.

Good singles, uneven album.

Some of her singles feel like instant classics to me so hopefully she can keep it up.

I like her album and admittedly addicted to "video games" but knowing she's dating Axl Rose has just knocked her down a few pegs in my book, like all of them. Hopefully her poor decision making skills won't influence her next album.

She's great to look at, but her music didn't do much for me on the few tries I gave it.

I wonder if he makes her crap in a litter box like Stephanie Seymour?

(I really hope she does it while singing "Video Games")

Re: Lana Del Rey

I wasn't blown away my her album, but I do like it.

Shirley Manson spoke a lot about her, defending her very strongly about the name change and people's claims about her using her looks to sell albums and she made so many strong points and I respect Shirley so much, that I definitely was moved enough to think it really was blown way out of proportion and unfair to Lana or whatever her real name is.

I think Katy Perry is nice to look out, so are a lot of people. So what? If she makes music that I like I'll buy it. I certainly like Tori Amos more and she's no longer really much to look at, but she's made a whole lot of crap for years.

And as long as Lana Del Ray doesn't feel she's so important that a 3D movie (or 2D, for that matter) needs to be made about her life, she gets bonus points from me.

"Video Games" was one of the better singles last summer.

I'll leave it at that.

Nothing like becoming a model by making a record.

I'm pretty sure your initial thought was correct.

I didn't mind the "Blue Jeans" song/video, but it doesn't make me wanna buy her album.

She doesn't autotune, so that's +100 points there.

But she has collagen lips so that's -100 points there.

I enjoyed her singles. The album was incredibly hit and miss. Some tracks were very good, some were embarrassing. I hope she can weed out the crap in the future (getting rid of Axl Rose would be a great start).

Wasn't too excited about her music, then I saw her live at a festival. It was so incredibly boring that I lost even more respect for her.

Re: Lana Del Rey

The album was very hit or miss. I think a large problem was that she used so many samples and beats in multiple songs that it began to seem to repetitive after a while.

With a better producer and management, she could have a long career- she can sing and doesn't need autotune or overproduction, which puts her above 95% of the crap on the radio today.

I don't find her that attractive, so the lips are a non-issue.

Was unimpressed with her on SNL but bought her album when it was 99 cents. I did listen to it and didn't really feel a need to spin it again, but hit-and-miss may be an accurate description. I was painting at the time and so didn't really pay attention to the tracks but maybe I'll try it again and see if I can figure out what to listen to and what to skip.

Hate when that happens, I went a show, years ago, and a band I was indifferent to (Thrice) was playing. Brutally boring in every possible way. I have hated them ever since.

for those interested, 2 new songs off a rerelease called "Born To Die: Paradise Edition out Nov 3 (it will be available separately on its own.) First one is Ride, produced by Rick Rubin, and the second is her cover of Blue Velvet

She's admitted in at least one interview that she doesn't enjoy singing live/on stage and doesn't really know what to do.

That would explain a lot, but you'd think she could hire a coach or something

Ride is easily better than half of her album.

Re: Lana Del Rey

I like the song Blue Velvet. I normally don't like artists who sell out right away to do commercials but it's getting harder and harder for singers and bands to sell with so many people downloading albums for free so it's not as big a deal to me, depending on the situation. Plus they don't make much money on their first album because it all goes to making videos and promoting themselves even more so they can get more money for subsequent albums.

I don't like her other songs though.
