Re: Lana Del Rey

Video Games had an interesting sound (with insipid lyrics) but bands like Tarnation, Shivaree, Mazzy Star, etc. did it better and Del Rey has the stage presence of a potato.

Re: Lana Del Rey

I bought it for a buck. I think many of the lyrics are not exceptionally deep or meaningful to say the least, but I like her voice.
Not liking the 'rerelease with two additional songs' that is happening more and more.
I haven't seen her on stage but I've definitely been to a few shows where the band I liked, had nonexistent stage presence, or a band I didn't originally like, was awesome.

Anyone hear her new song or you can all it a remix actually?

Re: Lana Del Rey

I was introduced to this song through the Within Temptation cover. When I went back and listened to the original, I found it unlistenable. Sharon absolutely owns this song, even with the extra melisma and vibratto that she does not typically employ.

And live, no Auto Tune required.

Re: Lana Del Rey

I like Lana Del Rey a lot, her sound reminds me of what I liked about Tori Amos pre-2000. I tried to watch some of LDR live at Lollapalooza, but her stage had terrible visibility and the audio was drowned out by NIN playing nearby. I finally worked my way towards the front of the crowd for the final song, but the song ended up just being a jam out by her band with her having left the stage early.

So true. They kind of take over any song they cover with her voice. Even Grenade becomes awesome.

Still like LDR though. Just different.

Re: Lana Del Rey

^Thanks! I happened to hear "West Coast" on Pandora today for the first time and that song alone was worth the 69 cents.

Re: Lana Del Rey

Well I purchased the album for $.69 but they charged my card $7.99! When I follow your link it still shows .69. I emailed amazon about it. I absolutely hate the way they handle digital orders though.

Edit: Shit. Now it shows $7.99. Seems like I'm gonna be out $6 here.

Re: Lana Del Rey

Yep. Amazon refunded me the $7.99. The person in chat admitted it was an error in price.

Re: Lana Del Rey

Now the 11 track album is back down to $3.99, FYI. You can get that and the 3 other tracks from the 14 track album for under $8.

Thanks for the reminder. I'll pick it up. She is so sexy!

BTW, when did new album releases move from Tuesday to Fridays? I just noticed that recently. Same with charts updates. What's that all about?

It was decided at the beginning of the year and went in to effect in July.

I think the biggest issue that sparked the change was that albums were getting released on all different dates in different countries which led to them being leaked and pirated before they'd get release somewhere else, i.e. UK releasing on Monday, US getting it on Tuesday. Now everyone gets it on Friday.

Re: Lana Del Rey

Got an email this morning saying that the Barnes & Noble version (exclusive whatever) will be a red variant. I was about to snag it but it's $40. I'll pass.

Re: Lana Del Rey

I think it's a red 180 gram double LP and not a BN exclusive. It seems to be $40 everywhere though. My daughter really wants it.

Re: Lana Del Rey

$40? Ha, that's nuts. Her last LP was a double and it cost half that.

For you Lana Del Rey fans I would recommend checking out Meg Myers.

I'm no vinyl expert -- I think the last LP I bought was the Grease soundtrack in 1978, but aren't the 180 gram pressings usually a lot more expensive?
