Re: What are you listening to? Summer 2012

Been doing a lot of driving this summer, and with the heat, Modest Mouse's The Lonesome Crowded West has not left my cd player in about a month. I haven't been listening to much new music, but I did grab the new Liars album.

Have a feeling this is going to be the soundtrack to the rest of summer for me. (Although I did get the deluxe edition, with the three bonus tracks.)

Also, still quite enjoying this...

Its 45$+ at Amazon, but if you order from amazon.ca, it was 14.99 (plus 10$ or so international shipping).

So 25$ includes the 3 discs and the cassette and everything else.

The Kingston TrioThe Capitol Years

I find it difficult to understand I had never heard of these guys before (50s folk revival superstars). Really liked this album.

MillionyoungAmanecer

Jacksonville, FL chillwave. A lot of bands I've discovered recently and liked seem to come from there.

TNGHTTNGHT EP

Checking out what the whole Best! New! Music! hoopla is. Pretty good, I guess. Not memorable on first listen.

Nice choice of the New American Orchestra version of Blade Runner; I think their version of Love Theme is awesome. Blade Runner Blues has more of a jazzy feel, which is true for all of their tracks, than the atmospheric rendition Vangalis made but it works in its own way.

Re: What are you listening to? Summer 2012

I thought that it was going to be a joke album, but there are some really strong tracks on this:

Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Americana

It is an album of traditional folk songs, like Oh Susannah!

Here is the entire album on Youtube - listen to the first couple of songs to get a good feel for it (Oh Susannah! and Clementine)

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3_71FA0V-P0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Reminds me of a skit from Mad TV from maybe ten years ago - it was a fake commercial for The Presidents of the United States of America's new album, Public Domain Songs.

I cannot embed it but here is a direct link:
