Your thoughts on digital artists being resurrected?
 

After the reaction to Tupac's hologram at Coachella, I have a nagging suspicion that the estates of some dead artists may now try giving their deceased breadwinners the same treatment. Someone (was it Dre?) has even said they'd like to see the same done to Jimi Hendrix.

What are your thoughts about seeing the dead performing as overly-animated CGI puppets on a stage?

Would you pay to "see" someone you never would have been able to otherwise?

Going to something like this in concert seems stupid to me. If I wanted to watch a pre-recorded performance why not just find something on DVD/Blu-ray? I will admit that it did look pretty cool and the technology behind it is pretty impressive but meh.

As a full concert, or as a small bit during the middle of a show? If the whole concert was the digital artist, I probably wouldn't go. As a small bit, it probably wouldn't bother me.

On the other hand, I've seen some artists that weren't very active onstage, and used projections to round out their show, so maybe something like the Tupac thing wouldn't be out of place there.

It is stupid and I wouldn't pay a dime to see it.

It would be an interesting exhibit for the rock hall but I can't imagine sitting through an entire concert like that. Then again, I had gotten free tickets for that Elvis concert where they showed live footage of him performing while his old band played live. It was...creepy.

People used to go to Pink Floyd & Led Zeppelin "laser light shows" so watching digital projections to pre-recorded music isn't new.

The only good thing about a hologram Tupac is it that it wouldn't be able to rape or shoot anyone.

Absolutely I would. Hopefully it won't take too long before they start getting really creative with it.

Please understand that this is a wow-factor. One that will surely be integrated in live shows in the future, but it's popularity and "special-ness" will fade quite rapidly.

No, I would not pay to see a show that did this.

The Coachella thing was cool because it was a surprise (well, sorta, since it was leaked) cameo at a existing show that people paid to see. Something like that would be okay but not an entire show.

I went to Floyd & Zeppelin shows it was a good time. However it was high school (The Memories)

:thumbsup: I have that on dvd. Love it! If there ever was a hologram Elvis tour come my way, you can bet your sweet ass my ass would be in the front row. I was only nine years old when he died so I never got to go to one of his concerts. It would be the closest thing I would ever get to seeing him perform "live".

Wouldn't it feel weird to applaud someone who isn't even there to appreciate it? Or are you applauding the person who imitated their movements and voice?

I find it kind of creepy, but mainly pointless. There's so much great music being made by living people that I don't want to spend my time or money seeing fake live performances by dead people.

Yeah honestly it doesn't even really count as being "live" or "as close to seeing them as I could get since they died before I actually could". It's essentially just taking a live performance of an artist and projecting an image out. It just seems silly that anyone would want to go spend money on a ticket and go to a show for something that's fake. Why not just play a live album or watch a previously recorded concert? Maybe if it was a part of someone else's show and was just a few songs or something I could see but even then I still wouldn't see the point of this being widely used.

I thought the 2Pac thing was pretty seamless. Seeing him and Snoop perform "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" live like that was really cool.

Would I pay for an entire show? No. But if they implemented it in the same vein as the 2Pac thing, then absolutely. It was just very lifelike.

It'd be interesting being able to "see" artist that had passed before you were even born. I think it's very innovative.

I think these "hologram" performances will have a brief period of popularity and will quickly become overused.

Laser shows are a little different. You're going for the light show. You don't expect live music.

For the first time in nearly a decade, TLC will be reuniting for a U.S. concert tour later this year -- and TMZ has learned, the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes will be making a special appearance.

The group's rep tells us, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas are currently in the planning stages of a massive 2012 reunion tour in the U.S.

So far, we're told 5 major cities have already been booked -- and even more are in the works.

But the big surprise ... we're told the group plans to pull a Tupac -- incorporating their deceased former member Left Eye in the shows, projecting her image on a big screen and working her vocals into the live performances.

FYI -- today marks 10 years since a fatal car accident in Honduras took Left Eye's life. RIP.
