That really sucks. I always wanted to go see one of his Rambles at his house. Very underrated music legend. A great voice among the three great voices in the Band.

Hard to believe there's only going to be Robbie and Garth left.

Prayers to Levon and his family. A Midnight Ramble would've been cool to see. My favorite rock 'n roll drummer and I think, one of the coolest voices in music history.

re: [UPDATED] Levon Helm has died

Goddamn it. I had no idea he was sick. He's definitely one of my favorite drummers and held his own in a band that featured three of the greatest singers of the 60s. It's worth noting that he is in the middle of a career resurgence, his last two solo albums were great. He is also a fine actor who stole scenes as Jack Ridley, Yeager's flight chief in "The Right Stuff" and as Loretta's father in "Coal Miner's Daughter". He is one of those guys that whatever he's involved in, you know it will be quality. He always seems 100% authentic.

re: [UPDATED] Levon Helm has died

A couple of other movie mentions with fantastic roles by the great Levon Helm --
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada and Shooter.

My favorite classic photo of Levon and The Band.

So sad. Levon was a great vocalist and drummer. His vocals on The Weight were magic.

I have a deep love for The Band and Levon Helm. They and he have mean't more to me personally than any other artist ever. I saw Levon perform last year and even though he was sick, it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Vaya Con Dios Levon!

Only time I saw them live once, they opened for C,S & N around '85. There was only four of them then.

I love Music from Big Pink.

Only two left.

Davy Jones counts in this stupid thing? That was almost two months ago. How about Mike Wallace? Or Earl Scruggs, if it has to be a musician?

Anyway, Levon.

re: [UPDATED] Levon Helm has died

Terribly sad news. He's one of my favorite human beings ever. A great drummer, iconic singer, scene-stealing actor and by all accounts an all around good guy. RIP Levon

re: [UPDATED] Levon Helm has died

Levon was a great singer, drummer, & actor. There was just something so authentic about everything he did. He should have won a best supporting Oscar for Coal Miner's Daughter. I've been a fan since the late 70's. The guy was just great in my book.

Depressed over this one, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is one of my favorite songs and of the three his voice was the most distinctive for me.

Re: [UPDATED] Levon Helm has died

I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin’ about half past dead.

Good to know the Band remembered Nazareth, PA enough to write into their most classic song.

I'll be watching The Last Waltz this weekend in honor of Levon Helm.

Re: [UPDATED] Levon Helm has died

I was lucky enough to see the "Ramble At the Ryman" which was taped and broadcast on PBS a couple of years ago. It was an incredible, celebratory night of music. Some of the special guests included Alison Krauss, Robert Plant, Sam Bush, John Hiatt, Steve Earle and Sheryl Crow. The DVD of the show is great but didn't include everyone (probably rights issues).

Speaking of which, I think this song is so much fun...what a fantastic life and wonderful legacy he leaves.

RIP Levon.
