Her movie "Sparkle" was due to come out in August and it was supposed to be her comeback. We'll never know now.

Man, that's sad. She wasn't really my taste and I totally hated The Bodyguard soundtrack, but no doubt the woman could sing (I really did like the Waiting To Exhale soundtrack, to be fair). Such a shame that Bobby Brown and drugs ruined such a huge, successful career and eventually her life.

Honestly, I lost interest in Whitney Houston's career about 15 years ago. I was a big fan of her music and career until she married Bobby Brown and when radio stations overplayed "I will always love you." I never really took her acting career seriously. Up until around 1995, she put out some great albums with alot of replay value. "One Moment in Time" is actually my favorite song by her.

It's amazing that not counting soundtracks, she's been around almost 30 years, but has only released 6 studio albums.

I was a big fan of her early work and I do believe she was one of the greatest female vocalist ever. Sad end to her life.

I hate to say this, but, this comes as no surprise to me at all. And I suspect that few people are legitimately surprised by this sad end that she came to.

Over the last 10 years she became a trainwreck, one that we couldn't help but watch with some amusement (and, occasionally, some concern as things got scary close to predicting this kind of eventual outcome).

A true waste of talent. She had a phenomenal voice, and even though I couldn't stand her music or her singing style I had a lot of respect for her as a great singer with a great voice.

Sad news, but not at all surprising. Much like Amy Winehouse, it's the type of thing where you hear the news and you just kind of think, "Oh."

While 48 is very young these days, I don't think anyone can say she didn't live a full life. Obviously, she's had her struggles in the latter part of her life, but there are a ton of people who would probably trade their life for hers just to experience all of the amazing successes she's had.

I was 13 when "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" came out and I thought she was soooo hot in that video. It was sad seeing the downward spiral her life became. RIP Whitney.

Always sad news to see a tragic end to anyone's life (celeb or not)...and a reminder of the devastation that can be wrought by drugs.

Although I get your point and agree that there are probably many who would trade places with her even knowing the full story, I have a different opinion of what constitutes a "full" life.

Seems that Whitney obtained fame & "success" at the price of decades of misery & humiliation. My 91-year-old mother-in-law recently passed away leaving a legacy of 63 years of happy marriage, scores of friends, and a several generations influenced by her (including great-great grandchildren). Although she suffered from some physical disabilities her last few years, I would say that she led a "full" life".

In comparison, Houston died at a relatively young age and was booed off the stage in 2009 when she attempted a "comeback". At least she did outlive Winehouse by a few decades (I'd imagine there are quite a few people who would have traded places with Amy, too).

Not disputing your sentiments, just saying that it's a difference in perceptions and definition of "full".
