It was so exciting to watch how the band members would smile at each other and push themselves to deliver. They are supposed to swing through the states again in August. Don't miss them if you get the chance.
I was a huge fan in my college days, but hadn't listened to them much in recent years--I didn't even revisit them before I went to the show a couple weeks ago. I was similarly impressed by this tour. And two things stuck out for me:

1. They really don't sound like anyone else at all.
2. They wrote a lot of really great songs.

Agreed on both points. Even their slower songs sounded amazing and powerful in the live setting.

Saw Sirenia, Arkona, Mindmaze and Graveshadow last night at the Echoplex . Graveshadow was awesome and very interactive with the fans. Met up with the lead singer later and she was really cool. Mindmaze was pretty good, but I would of had them and Graveshadow switch spots. Arkona was great, so much energy. A bunch of people left after them though. They missed out on a great Sirenia performance. Got really close to the stage for their show and was not disappointed.

Metallica/Volbeat last weekend. Saw Tool earlier tonight. Rest of the summer I've got Wilco, Spoon/New Pornographers, Pixies.....and taking my mom to Rod Stewart/Cyndi Lauper.

Saw Xandria and Kobra and The Lotus at The Regent last night. Once Human was supposed to open, but the lead singer wasn't feeling well, so they cancelled. This was not announced, so people were getting frustrated. It wasn't until Kobra and The Lotus came on stage, when we realized that Once Human had cancelled. Aside from that, it was a really god show. Kobra and The Lotus were excellent. I am surprised that these guys aren't as well known as they should be. Xandria was excellent as well. They also had a great sense of humor. I'm okay with missing Once Human, since I'll be seeing them in July opening for Dragonforce.

Saw the Lady Antebellum You Look Good World Tour (did their preshow thing) and got to meet Kelsea Ballerini and listen to some of her new songs during her VIP. Really great performance and Lady A had a full on brass band which just blew the Hollywood Bowl down. A must see if they are coming to your area. Got some videos if anyone has Instagram. Was in the third row which is breath taking seats at the Bowl

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Saw The Primitives the other night at one of only 3 US dates on their schedule. A band I've waited literally 30 years to see, and the wait was even more excruciating as this show was announced in October of last year. So tack on another 7 months of waiting.

The club was literally the worst place to see a band. Tiny little place, with a stage that's little more than half a foot off the floor. If you're not right up front, forget seeing them. Doesn't help that the singer isn't even 5 feet tall, either.

Still, despite the muddy sound and piss-poor sight lines, it was great to finally see a favorite band. I was also pleasantly surprised that I didn't spend the entire night with everyone's cell phones up in the air blocking what little view I already had. One annoying moment came late in the show when some dude forced his way up in front of me, only to have a conversation with his girlfriend. Sure, the band drowns them out, but it's so distracting to have to try to angle yourself around their heads getting close together to say something to one another, back to watching the band, then talking again, yada yada yada. D-bag even yells out "Play the hits!", and luckily that was right as they were launching into "Crash". Sure enough, they were gone not long after that song ended and I could get back to enjoying the band without them in front of me.

Saw Def Leppard/Poison/Tesla at Rogers Arena in Vancouver 2 nights ago. All 3 bands were great. They were maybe 500 seats shy of selling out the 21 000 seat venue. Which made me happy.

Metallica
Avenged Sevenfold

Mile High, Denver, 6/7/17

It was a good show, especially for a stadium. A lightning storm came through partway into the set, so the show was delayed about 30 minutes. The band came back and played a bit of Ride the Lightning, but had to cut out two songs to fit into curfew (Halo and Nothing Else Matters).

How long did they play anyways? How many songs? And how was Avenged? Seeing this concert when they get to Los Angeles.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

I did three U2 shows. Both Rose Bowls and just on Sunday, I hit Chicago 2.

I have other videos in the U2 thread, but here is one from Sunday's Chicago show...

Saw Yngwie Malmsteen at the Majestic Ventura Theater last Sunday evening. Was able to easily walk up to within 10ft. of the stage and had great vantage point all night. Got a pick that he kicked out. The guy still shreds after all these years. Even though I've seen him more times than I can recall, I was still really glad that I went. Recommend seeing him if it's not too pricey. Tickets were $45 online which these days is very reasonable.

They were giving away tickets for the Santa Ana, CA Observatory Show. I almost went thinking to tape but was booked already.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Just got back from Metallica with Volbeat and Avenged Sevenfold.

Really good show. I was there for Volbeat and Metallica (Avenged Sevenfold just doesn't click with me). Sound was great for both openers, but they must have had Nigel Tufnel at the board because everything was cranked to 11 when Metallica hit the stage. That's why it was only good. Almost no midrange in the mix. Liked the minimalist stage setup and the "mini" setup used for Seek and Destroy (pic below).

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds this past Saturday night at the Wang Theater in Boston. I had always been a modest Nick Cave fan, had one or two albums and knew a few songs. But I went on a whim when I was able to snag a pit ticket at 5:30pm, just a couple hours before the show. (The Wang has a true orchestra pit - only 100 people were allowed in, due to weight restrictions.)

Concert itself was phenomenal, especially from right up front. They played over two hours, and never once was there a lull. Very intense and foreboding - the only comparison I can think to make is maybe Nine Inch Nails, when they slow things down. I loved it!

I had a couple good friends at that show.

He's one of those artists that I'm sure I'd like if I made the effort to listen to
him in depth, but for some reason or another he never crossed my listening radar over the years.

Our set was truncated due to a lightning delay. I think we got 16 or so songs, played for under 2 hrs. We're not standard, though.

Avenged Sevenfold was good. They did a good job utilizing the large stage, and the sound was pretty decent for a stadium.

I caught Nick Cave Saturday in Chicago. It was a bucket list show. I've wanted see him for years, and with David Bowie and Leonard Cohen dying recently, I decided I didn't want to miss out again.

I saw Iron Maiden with Ghost opening last night. Both bands were great. My fellow human beings on the other hand were rude inconsiderate drunken fools.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

I was at the Houston Iron Maiden/Ghost show. I've been wanting to catch Ghost for some time and they didn't disappoint. Iron Maiden was great, as usual. But, and I know this has been beat to death in many a discussion....good god Janick Gers has got to go!!! The last time I saw them I was 5th row on the floor, the Dave and Adrian side, so I could easily avoid seeing his shenanigans. Sitting in the upper deck you couldn't avoid his ridiculous prancing and showboating. I'm convinced now more than ever that he only actually plays 5% of the time!!

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

I ended up getting a last-minute free ticket to the Maiden show. I caught the last half of the Ghost performance and it is not my thing at all.

I am with you on Janick Gers. The last Maiden show I went to I was in the front row RIGHT in front of him, so I got to see his act up close and personal. Not only are his moves goofy, he repeats them over and over, song after song. My personal favorite is when he flips the guitar behind his back. I think it is cool gesture that they let him stay in the band when Adrian Smith returned because they could easily have booted his ass, but he is definitely not needed.

LCD Soundsystem at Brooklyn Steel. Photo is not mine.

If you're not holding the phone in front of your face at concerts, you are blocking other people's view. Stop doing that.
