Was there for both days so I also got to see Foo Fighters, Weezer, the Breeder, Stephen Sanchez, and the Mike Love Beach Boys (who are < the Brian Wilson Beach Boys but did have Uncle Jessie for a few songs). Tegan and Sara pulled out last minute with an illness that I would guess would be COVID. Three stages without competing headliners is about my speed for festivals these days. The problem here was the limited space and without concurrent headliners it was packed. It doesn’t help that one side is literally the ocean and exits are few. Still the event provided one of the most memorable concert moments of my lifetime when Corey Glover comes down from the stage, walks down the security channel to the mixing booth, then climbs over one side into the half full VIP area and continues to the boardwalk then tightropes down of the edge of the railing all right past me.

Went to the Bourbon & Beyond festival in Louisville KY last weekend. So much great music (and perfect weather all weekend): Bruno Mars, The Killers, Brandi Carlisle, Black Keys, Black Crowes, Blondie, Duran Duran, Train, Hozier, Avett Brothers, Spoon, Jon Batiste, First Aid Kit, Old Crow Medicine Show, Aloe Blacc and a bunch more.

That's a hell of a line-up. I can't hang with festivals any more, but respect for you hanging for all those shows. Were you exhausted?

How was Brandi Carlisle? I will see her opening for P¡NK in two weeks. Just bought tickets today.

I'm actually too old to deal with most festivals like Coachella. B&B is great - you can bring in your own chairs and just set them up for the day on the lawn. There are only two main stages, and they are side-by-side, so you don't have to move around. There's just a 5-minute break between acts all day long. It's great!

Brandi was one of the best acts of the weekend, she was awesome. It was definitely a hard-rocking set put together for a festival crowd. She also played last year, the only repeat act.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

I was tempted to purchase tickets for Fri. and Sat. at Louder Than Life which is taking place in Louisville this weekend, I'm assuming that it even the same venue as B&B since it's DWP event. But it looks as if they are trying to screw people over on the refund they promised at Blue Ridge Rock Fest. So I decided to hold off until maybe next year.

Blue Ridge Rock Festival was not a DWP event, those folks were screwed over by a different promoter. I've have had a blast at LTL in the past. The overall lineup didn't do much for me this year, so we didn't go this time.

I've been to the DWP Rock on the Range (Sonic Temple) festival many times and always had a good time.

I meant B&B and Louder Than Life are both DWP events. BRRF is independent

Ah, sorry. Thought you were saying you didn't go cuz Danny Wimmer screwed over the BRRF folks. All good.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

9/27 - Coldplay w/ H.E.R. - Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego

Totally worth it for the $20 Infinity tickets they make available to the public. Very cool concept.

A limited number of Infinity Tickets are released for every Coldplay show to give fans the chance to attend the Music Of The Spheres World Tour at a super low price.
They cost the equivalent of £20 / $20 / €20 per ticket and must be brought in pairs.
Infinity Tickets are randomly allocated anywhere in the venue - from the back row to the floor to the best seat in the house
Couldn't get these for the Rosebowl shows (I would hate it if I got the bleacher seats anyway). Amazing show! You're given a wristband that lights up and is sync'd to the show. They reuse these so you are highly encouraged to return them on your way to the exits.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

I just saw Alice In Chains at a headline show at HOB Anaheim on Tuesday. I managed to see Jerry Cantrell last year and this was my first time seeing AIC. Amazing show from start to finish. I've really appreciated the depth and nuance that has come through in their recent studio work. William Duvall is an excellent fit for this line up. I'd never compare him to Layne, but he has his own thing and brings a powerful dynamic to their sound. They have a few dates left, so if you're on the West Coast, definitely try to catch them.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

P¡nk Summer Carnival Tour with Brandy Carlile opening, Allegiant Stadium.
Not necessarily one of my favorite artists, but I like Pink and she has a lot of great songs. She was a terrific presence and was well worth seeing live. Plus the aerial acrobatics she does while (apparently) singing are truly beyond belief.
Brandi Carlile is really an amazing vocalist and one of my new favorite Singers. She's just remarkable.

The Handsome Family
w/ Jon Langford and Sally Timms

10/06/23
Old Town School of Folk Music
Chicago IL

Great night of music at one of my favorite venues in Chicago. Anytime the openers are Mekons' Langford and Timms you know it's going to be a solid night. Pair that with a beautifully brooding set of dark Americana from The Handsome Family then I am happy.
No pics - sorry....

Brandi is amazing. I was going to see her at Red Rocks with the Colorado Symphony and at Wolf Trap with the National Symphony, but both got canceled due to Covid. Party of One is one of my favorite songs, and I was really looking forward to hearing her and the symphony hit that crescendo. I've since been able to see her acoustic twice, but still haven't been able to see her with the full band. And speaking of lesbians named Brandy(i), I was at Brandy Clark and Lori McKenna last night (pictures to come), and saw Jason Isbell for the 14th time for a charity concert on Saturday night.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

I saw Nick Cave last week performing with Colin Greenwood from Radiohead. Cave on piano, Greenwood on bass. It was really good. I've seen Nick Cave with a full band more than a handful of times and loved it, but his stripped down show was fantastic.
