Saw Dokken and Lynch Mob this past weekend. George still has it unfortunately Don does not. It was still great to hear the classics performed by a couple of 70-year olds.

If I was on that boat, Perry and I would likely have never bumped into each other, at least not until some of the later sets. Fleshgod Apocalypse was a great surprise how good they are live, when I saw them with Hypocrisy back in 2019.

Here was my Day 1 which might contain more bands that you like. Somehow Day 2 had a disproportionate amount of death metal. During Day 1, the pool stage is under construction, so less options available. I wanted front and center for Kamelot and Kreator, so I stuck around the theater rather than checking out the other stages.

The schedule was released a couple days early, so I had some time to construct an optimal schedule. As bands were announced over the previous few months, I listened to them, and added them to a ranked list of bands performing. Once the schedule came out, I went through my list and went back and forth to maximize seeing my top 10 bands twice, my top 30 at least once, and checking out as many bands after that, so I had a plan to catch some 50 bands and 60 sets, but finished at 40 bands / 45 sets, sacrifices made by staying at stages, the meet & greets, and not staying up to the last show.

What I used to label as "new school" thrash are coming on 15 years now since their first album in 2008. Warbringer had the worst time slots on the boat (5:15am and 2:15am), I caught their 2:15am set, and they had a packed enthusiastic crowd

I went and saw Adelita's Way last night along with Otherwise, Moon Fever and Above Snakes. Really good show from start to finish. Me and my daughter also took in the pre-show Meet & Greet with Adelita's Way which was really cool.

One of the original bay area thrash bands from the 80s, Heathen at Reggies in Chicago last night. Unfortunately, original member Lee Atlus doesn't appear to be on this tour.

Dawes, 3/12, Warner Theatre. They skipped having an opener to play two full sets. It was one of the last few shows before Wylie Gelber leaves the band.

I don't know how you guys get such great pictures! This is the best I could do from last night:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor last night, at a little outdoor stage next to a BBQ restaurant in the middle of the desert. It got a little chilly, but it was a pretty damn amazing show. Drug my partner to it, who had never even heard of post-rock before, and he enjoyed it as well.

You buy expensive front row seats or you get there really early to get a good spot in the pit.

Being close helps for sure, but much better to have a digital camera (instead of a phone) and some basic knowledge of the manual settings.
