Re: What concert did you recently attend?

I've never seen The Cure perform live but I have their 2002 Berlin Trilogy concert blu-ray on constant rotation in my home theatre room - absolutely amazing!!!

The 1975 @ The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas
I've only recently gotten into them, thanks almost entirely to their new Jack Antinoff produced album which is absolutely fabulous.
They had this really cool Broadway like set they performed on. Did two acts, the first was almost entirely the new album, the second after a costume change (seen below) was their Greatest Hits stuff. Terrific show. Matty Healy clearly has issues. He drank from a flask literally non-stop all night. Kind of amazing he could still perform.

Machine Head in Joliet on Black Friday. No openers, just 2+ hours of Machine Head. They performed some fun covers including great versions of Creeping Death and Raining Blood.

I saw Chris Isaak last weekend and he gave a phenomenal show. It was a Christmas show so he played a half dozen or so Christmas tunes and a whole lot of his back catalog. His voice is still phenomenal and he can hit and hold high notes for an impressive amount of time. He has a great self-deprecating sense of humor, he had on a somewhat signature suit at the start of the show (think mariachi) and quipped that he was so thankful for people coming out to support live music and how otherwise someone would mistake him for a figure skater. He also joked about being a 'semi-professional musician" I consider myself slightly above a casual fan of his and don't listen to him too much but I came away very impressed and wish I has seen him sooner.

Direct opener for Amon Amarth was Carcass, really old school death metal from the late 80s into early 90s.

Take the day off, and get the soundcheck VIP and make a full day of it, you'll get a lot of free swag and get to hang with the band.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
Saw Black Anvil/Immolation/Dark Funeral/Cannibal Corpse two weeks ago at Showbox in Seattle. Black Anvil was ok, wasn't too big of fan and didn't leave becoming a bigger one. This was the third time seeing Immolation this year and they are just as fantastic as always. Really are one of the most underrated OSDM bands. Hadn't really listened to Dark Funeral much but left a fan, will pick up some of their stuff. I actually just started listening to Cannibal Corpse more over the last year. I had a good deal of their discography but just never really gave it a proper listen. I know alot of people consider their early albums the classic CC but I actually prefer the George Fischer stuff. Great live band.
This was my first concert after moving back to Seattle 11 years after I left. I didn't realize the parking garages closed at midnight, so I unfortunately I had to miss about half of CC set to get my car out and head home. Lesson learned, need to figure out street parking downtown. Why a parking garage closes so early on a weekend is beyond me.

2022-12-03: Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Nutter Center, Dayton, OH). Still a good spectacle show, it's a tradition for us at this point (20 years running). They changed up several songs for the second act this year, good stuff.

Cannibal Corpse in Belvidere IL, near Rockford. A bit of a drive on a Monday night, but my concert buddy is a super fan, so I made the trek out there. Surprisingly, I hadn't seen any of the openers before (Dark Funeral, Immolation, and Black Anvil), so that was a good experience. I've seen Cannibal Corpse several times and by far this was the calmest crowd, only during a couple songs, they got a crowd surf wave going, but overall whatever moshing that was happening, never made it up to the rail.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
Direct opener for the Cannibal Corpse show was a satanic black metal band, Dark Funeral. Even though they've been around for close to 30 years, I'm not really into black metal, so this is my first time seeing them. So far, no subliminal messaging causing me to sacrifice animals or babies or anything, so I think I made it through okay, and I guess the "Hail Satan!" chant during the show didn't stick. They performed in the dark mostly, so the best picture I have is actually from my phone when I meant to record a video and snapped a picture. The Pixel phone worked its magic and pulled an image out of the darkness.

2022-12-09: Night Ranger at Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio. Small arena but crowd was really into it. They still put on a high energy fun show. Always enjoy seeing them.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
Saw Obituary, Carcass, and Amon Amarth at the Showbox Sodo in Seattle last night. Missed Cattle Decapitation because I was catching up with a buddy I hadn't seen in 7 years. A bit bummed about missing them but I've seen them 6 times and their set was short anyways. Obituary and Carcass more than made up for missing them. I'm not a huge fan of Amon Amarth and this show didn't really change that. I can see why they are popular but they just aren't for me. I think they had to scale back their stage production because the venue that had them was pretty small compared to others on the tour. I'm surprised they didn't play WAMU

Flew down to LA last weekend for KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas
Imagine Dragons
Black Keys
Social Distortion
Death Cab for Cutie
Jimmy Eat World
Yungblood
Maneskin
The Interrruptors
Wet Leg
Fun lineup of some new and old acts. Problem was no breaks. They just literally rotated the stage and one band played about 30 min while another was setting up and then repeated for 6 hours. I'm old.

1994 : Night 2 (Sunday): Simple Minds, The Black Crowes, Sheryl Crow, Candlebox, The Cranberries, Live, Seal, Weezer, Love Spit Love, Dinosaur Jr.
(Coolest thing was this was right after the Buddy Holly music video came out, and Henry Winkler introduced Weezer).
1995 : Night 1 (Saturday): Bush, Alanis Morissette, Lenny Kravitz, Joan Osborne, Oasis, Sonic Youth, The Presidents of the United States of America, Foo Fighters, Porno for Pyros, Toadies, No Doubt
(I remember seeing a just-breaking Foo Fighters and No Doubt who were essentially one-hit wonders at the time. I remember hating Sonic Youth and how my wife thought The Presidents of the United States were making up the song "Peaches" on the spot -- I had to tell her that no, it's actually a hit single. What's killing me is I have absolutely NO recollection of Oasis. Until I looked this up, I had no idea that they had performed. That really bums me out.)
1996 : Night 1 (Saturday): Natalie Merchant, Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Sheryl Crow, Garbage, Jewel, The Cardigans, Fiona Apple, Poe, Tracy Bonham
(this was, of course, the precursor to Lilith Fair, which Sarah McLachlan launched in 1997)
Ours was always at the Universal Amphitheater, but I guess it closed years ago? I never knew that.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
200 Stab Wounds and Undeath last night, another very active death metal crowd at a sold out Reggies.
This is my last show of 2022, and the next show will be on the 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise at the end of January, so I'll be quiet here for a while. Spent 43 nights at rock/metal shows in 2022, just above my pre-pandemic levels (38 in 2019, 32 in 2018). Anyone interested in seeing more photos of these shows, feel free to reach out via private message.

Starcrawler, at a venue way too small for them. Clearly they've got their eyes on larger rooms; their backdrop was too big for the stage, the guitarist brings a ton of guitars and amps with him and they had to be stored off stage. If there's a band that's the "future of rock and roll", it's Starcrawler.

I do think that's the last time I see them in a club environment. Jippy mentioned seeing them at The Observatory in OC, I'm surprised this show wasn't at The Observatory here as well, seems like a more fitting venue for them.

Recordings really do this band no justice at all; they need to be seen live to fully get the experience. They'd be great on SNL, but I have to believe NBC would require Arrow to tone it down and that wouldn't go over too well with them.

Harry Styles at the new Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs ( really Palm Desert )
Super Fun show, everyone had a great time, played some one direction songs in between the opener and him coming on stage, and everyone was singing along.
He was wheeled under the stage in a big black box. Which was pretty obvious to everyone.
Highly recommend seeing him.
