Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Went to Maryland Deathfest last week and caught the following bands: Yautja, Putrid Pile, Mortiferum, Skeletal Remains, Mortician, Scattered Remnants, Pyrexia, No/Mas, Graveyard, Massacre, Monstrosity, Suffocation, Obituary, Carcass, November's Doom, Onslaut, Cancer, Coroner, Autopsy, Deeds of Flesh, Schirenc plays Pungent Stench, Necrophobia, Nocturnus AD, Blood Incantation, Demilich, Destruction, Immolation, Triumph of Death, Antichrist Seige Machine, and Profantica.

Really good time but they changed the format a bit from when I went in 19 and brought back the Edison lot which is essentially a parking lot. Outdoor festivals are definantly not for me, I detest the sun in my eyes and hot weather so standing outside for 7+ hours each day wore on me. The other thing I liked about it being in 2 medium sized clubs is it was a festival that didn't feel like a festival. There were big crowds but you were never far from the stage. With Edison they could fit alot more people and thus you could end up alot further back.

I sorta recently discovered Novembers Doom, and like them a lot. Deeds of Flesh is also one I listen to somewhat regularly. No Hypocrisy? One of my favorite bands, and I'm bummed they didn't stop by here on their tour.

I had never really listened to ND before but really enjoyed them, I’ll have to check out their albums. Hypocrisy was the second to last Edison band on day 4 and I was tapped out. Went back and watched Antichrist Seige Machine and Profantica and called it a day.

Yeah, I can understand giving up before the end of a long festival. Did the same with System of a Down at Riot Fest one year. I just couldn't bring myself to wait another hour on the last day before they even came on, and then another hour for the set.

Caught Howard Jones with Midge Ure opening. Was actually more impressed with Midge.

I saw him when I was in college in 1989 and wrote a paper on it for my music appreciation class. Not sure if I’ve thought much about him since.

Saw Loverboy, REO Speedwagon and Styx last night. Styx was incredible. The sound was the best I've heard in any live performance.

Good to hear. When Live Nation was having the $25 sale, I picked these up for July.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Just finished one of the nicest concert events I have ever been to. Saw She & Him, an act that I have been a fan of since their first album (it's actress Zoey Deschanel [who I've had a crush on going back to Almost Famous] and indie rock artist M. Ward). I splurged for the best seats in the house, front row, center - - to get those seats, you had to buy a package with dinner before the show at the restaurant, and it turned out that it was wonderful, a full 3 course meal with a terrific Filet Mignon.
The venue is right on the pier in San Diego with boats moored right next to the stage and very small, just 1400 seats when full (and this show was not sold out). I haven't had a front row seat in a long time - it's almost too close as you kind of have to crane your neck, and Zoey's lyric-providing iPad blocked her face sometimes. Still it was great to see a show that close and her voice was amazing - - gave me chills. What a cool venue and a wonderful evening.

Saw them a few years ago, wish they would do more extensive touring. Zooey's voice is just wonderfully soothing.

Also picked up a new P&S camera so I can get the best pictures possible short of bringing my dSLR in.

Nice! How is his voice these days? He's getting up there.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

His voice is still solid and no issues singing. His hands shake a little as he plays guitar and he stumbles his speech occasionally as he's trying to recollect a story, so I think there's probably a little cognitive impairment going on.

Haven't been able to post here for a while, so I'll catch up with some highlights like Dragonforce, Firewind, Visions of Atlantis and Seven Spires back in March at the Metro in Chicago
