You should check out the Van Hunt album I picked if you haven't already. I think you'd like it.

Re: Best Albums of 2011

In no order:

Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes (actually, this is my favorite of 2011)
Wild Beasts - Smother
The Belle Brigade - The Belle Brigade
The Go! Team - Rolling Blackouts
Danger Mouse - Rome
Black Keys - El Camino
Cults - Cults
M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
Vaccines - What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?

I still have a few albums I want to hear, so this list may not be complete. Somebody start a Best Songs of 2011 thread! I don't want to since I haven't compiled a list yet, but in this iPod age I'm always into hearing good songs.

I did a mid-year thread (link), but yes I'd like to know an overall best of Jan-Dec list - and we pretty much know that all the good stuff been released December is a really dry month in terms of actual 'good' music ( )

I probably didn't listen to enough new music to make a top ten but my favorite album of the year is without a doubt...

Re: Best Albums of 2011

I've enjoyed pretty much everything I've picked up this year.

Top 10:
1. Pain of Salvation - Road Salt 2
2. Kenny Wayne Shepherd - How I Go
3. Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn of Events
4. Cake - Showroom of Compassion
5. Tesla - Twisted Wires
6. The Muppets - The Green Album
7. For All We Know - For All We Know
8. Evanescence - Evanescence
9. Adrenaline Mob - EP

Pending release next week:
10. (or higher) Nightwish - Imaginarium

Need to give more time:
Chickenfoot - III
Cage the Elephant - Happy Birthday

The only true disappointment was Eddie Vedder's Ukelele Songs. It wasn't near as good as Into the Wild and was quite long in the tooth to be honest.

Glad to see I'm not the only one here with this outstanding debut on their list. Just a great collection from start to finish.

Saw her perform the other night in Chicago, and her set was one of the best I've seen in awhile: fast, frantic and lead by that big voice coming out of such a tiny frame. Her set included a terrific cover of Elvis' 'Alison' which only made me love her more....

Re: Best Albums of 2011

I'm going to cheat a bit since one of my selections was released in England last year but didn't come out in the US until 2011, while another is from Japan and hasn't been released in the US at all.

4) Esben and the Witch, Violet Cries

3) PJ Harvey, Let England Shake

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/KRCgVKcXLRY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

2) Sarah Jarosz, Follow Me Down:

Re: Best Albums of 2011

I'll have to check out a lot of these albums. For me, the albums I play more than anything else from this year are the new PJ Harvey, Florence + The Machine, and Erasure.
