Re: Lou Reed & Metallica present Lulu [part 2]

Dumbass.
In other news, I'm actually diggin' on a few tracks. I realize that "Iced Honey" is the song that most sounds like a, um... song, so it almost wins by default right there, but it's not a terrible track. It's a bizarre album that everyone seems to clearly hate, but sometimes that makes me appreciate something even more. I'm not calling it good by any means, but it's a weird experiment that has some redeeming values.

Iced Honey was the only song that piqued my interest too -- maybe it's because Lou actually shows some life in his vocals?

I will admit there's a certain novelty/curiousity factor at play here. I wonder if the outcry would have been as vociferous if they had only recorded an EPs worth of songs as opposed to a full album...

CRM had a point. Its okay for Metallica fans to put Lou Reed in the same category as Michael Bolton and Barry Manilow, but a Lou fan can't dislike Metallica?
Neither act is a fave, but I do like Metallica's 80's music, and honestly.. unless you absolutely cannot fathom enjoying music you can't get whiplash to (as I recall a headbanger ranting that he couldn't grasp that Paul Simon could have fans since he doesn't rock), how can you not at least like "Walk On The Wild Side"? That is the Lou Reed song that everyone likes.

I don't know if the Manilow mention is a reference to a post I made but I wasn't saying that. I was just making a wisecrack about someone's listening habits who comes across as the "get off my lawn" type when it comes to metal.
I actually haven't attacked or commented on Reed at all. I'm indifferent to him. I recognize he's been very important to music over the years - he's just not my cup of tea.
What I've heard of Lulu falls into the "do not want" category, but hey, they're both long established and successful music artists. It's their prerogative to make this album. But it's our prerogative to deride it as fans.

If anything, Reed could tour it with a different back up band. I suppose anyone could scream "I AM THE TABLE!".

Well, I don't pay much attention to new releases. Had no idea about this album, before this thread. Listenening to tracks on Youtube, I'm digging this. But then I really, really like Lou Reed. And I'm into that avant garde hippie shit. Just the idea that Lou Reed is doing spoken word over Metallica tracks is epic to me.

I now really like this album. Junior Dad and Cheat on Me are my favorites.
In Junior Dad, there way they play the instrumentals really thrill me. Is there anyone else who does that kind of work? I can't get enough of it. Unfortunately, I know next-to-nothing about music - outside of a handful of artists I've been listening to for 20 years.

I wouldn't say I "really like" the album, but songs have definitely grown on me. The initial reaction is to hate the shit out of it, but, strangely, that almost makes me want to appreciate it. I don't see it ever attaining some celebrated cult status, but as an experiment in sound I think it's bold and interesting.

I've found it's a positive correlation; the more people hate on it, the more I find myself wanting to listen to it. Even I can't fully comprehend why my brain is accepting most it, but it is.
It did take me months to warm up to what they did, though. When I first heard "The View" I nearly shit myself.

The thing with Lulu is that it's so bizarre, and sounds like it shouldn't work in the slightest, but there's something almost hypnotic when I put it on. Not saying it would even make my list of the year's best, but I don't feel the need to hate on it as much as everyone else.
