Wow that sucks. In a way, it was barely there to begin with, but it bridged the songs amazingly. Wonder why it was taken out...

I'm liking SD so far, I've always found it to be a very quiet album and this reissue gives it a little more oomph.

I'm guessing those will come out in the archive releases

Re: Smashing Pumpkins Gish and Siamese Dream Re-Issues

Aside from the missing sample at the end of Soma (which was probably because of a rights issue with the sample), the channels are flipped. It's most obvious in the guitar in Silverfuck, which starts in the wrong channel compared to the previous release, but apparently it's done throughout.

Haven't really listened to the discs much yet, but I'm not really sold on the packaging...it's too bulky and impractical. The logo and band name isn't printed on the spine (or anywhere on the box, for that matter), so I guess it's just meant to store on the top of your shelf like a big shiny brick. I wish the design had been more of a sturdy digipack/digibook case with a slipcover instead, instead of three paper sleeves and worthless postcards.

I actually really liked how each song for 'Siamese Dream' got its own postcard - superfluous, sure, but a nice touch.

I do wonder if Billy purposely picked terrible pictures of James and D'arcy for the 'Gish' postcards, though. Yeowch.

I will say, though, that getting the boxes open is tough as they're really tight.

I couldn't believe how TOUGH that was. UGH. I don't mind the box/packinging, I mean it is a Box set...

ANyways someone had a question about pre-gish stuff, and apparently according to some people at the O-board, Billy had mentioned that a Piceses remaster/remix was coming for record store day 2012, and then pre-gish stuff through the SRCC, and then MCIS/TAFH

I have alot of this stuff - I used to be extremely connected in SP circles I have massive amounts of stuff mastered from Gen 0 analog recordings.

If there's something specific you are looking for, PM me and I'll see what I have.

I'm liking the 1993 concert DVD from the Siamese Dream box.
Lots of good performances, and the sound quality is better than expected (PCM stereo).

Re: Smashing Pumpkins Gish and Siamese Dream Re-Issues

For those concerned about Pre-Gish work:

from BC twitter (@Billy)

@thomcrossmusic Pisces Iscariot re-issue up next (april?) w/ bonus disc PLUS a release of all SP pre-Gish demos from @sprecordclub PLUS a compilation of the Rubano Tapes (roughly 50 hours of early SP live + rehearsals) in the spring2012
Listening to SD, it seems to be more...crisp? Not sure, I can hear the differences between the instruments..I hope that makes sense..I'm no audophile.

So I assume that means digital only for the pre-'Gish' stuff? That's kind of disappointing.

I can understand that though for the pre Gish only the hard core I would think would want it

I totally agree. I didn't hear much difference in 'Cherub Rock', but 'Quiet' - and then again 'Geek U.S.A.' - were a total kick in the teeth with how monstrous they were.

I initially thought that, but I would assume that would cover the same group of people who would buy multi-disc sets of 'Gish' and 'Siamese Dream'.

I think at the price point maybe many people needed replacement CDs? Mine were around 9-11 yearsold

well done, mine has so many scuffs on it not very good.

The only things that I was really careful were for things that were either promos or hard to find in stores (TAFH Box)

Surely a used copy of either isn't terribly hard to come by, and even if they wanted a remaster there are also a single disc.

I'm not trying to argue, I'm just saying that anyone who paid a bit extra for the deluxe sets would at least be interested in exploring a pre-'Gish' set if a physical option was available. I could see no vinyl/standard CD release, sure, but a similar 2CD/1DVD set at a comparable price point would surely sell to those who bought the first two.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins Gish and Siamese Dream Re-Issues

^^ Awesome, thanks.

Always felt Honeyspider was one of the greatest songs the band ever did that never ended up on an album. The version on the deluxe edition bonus disc is simply monstruous.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins Gish and Siamese Dream Re-Issues

Well the good thing is in several months we get Piceses Remaster + Bonus disc.

What time period does that cover? Post Gish? Pre SD?

Re: Smashing Pumpkins Gish and Siamese Dream Re-Issues

Here's another, Spiteface, which I think is from the SP Demo:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/v1tug4

Just as a point of comparison, here was the master analog rip file, to compare the quality:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/6y8ev4

For those of you with the MP set, you can definitely hear the difference of the fan remastered analog than that version with the horrible EQ curve.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins Gish and Siamese Dream Re-Issues

Looks like some of the pre-gish stuff might end up on the 'extra' disc for Pices Iscariot album due in April:

http://blogcritics.org/music/article...#ixzz1frWfXS1J

About four years back, you and [current guitarist] Jeff [Schroeder] played “Translucent” live for the first time ever. For the recently created SPRC, would you consider remastering and releasing once forgotten obscurities like that pre-Gish gem and others, like “There It Goes”?

Those two songs might just well end up on the extra-disc of our next official reissue release in April [2012] for [hit 1994 b-sides compilation] Pisces Iscariot.
