For me, it is easily better than Technical Ecstacy, Never Say Die, and Sabotage and as good as Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Vol. 4.

Listened to entire thing today. Amazed how it sounds just like early 70s.

Sabotage and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath are my two fav Sabbath albums so maybe that is why I am enjoying 13 so much.

I'm thrilled with this record (yes, record). Black Sabbath that sounds like Black Sabbath. Favorite track for me is LONER.

Re: Black sabbath: reunited original band line up for new album.

As it turns out, “13” is actually a lucky number for Black Sabbath.

The reunited hard-rock icons -- singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler -- have had plenty of ups, like 1970s "Paranoid" and 1975's "Sabotage," and downs, like 1995's "Forbidden," during their 40-plus years of dark, deafening music. But with their new album, “13,” the band that more or less invented heavy metal has finally claimed the No. 1 spot on Billboard's album chart, according to Nielson SoundScan. This is also only the second time Sabbath has debuted in the top 10 during their famously loud career. Before "13," the closest the Iron Men had ever come to the top spot in the U.S. was No. 8, with 1971's "Master of Reality."

The new album dropped June 11 on Vertigo/Republic, and it sold nearly 155,000 copies in its first week.

Re: Black sabbath: reunited original band line up for new album.

Finally gave the whole album a listen.

I like it

I actually, I really like it But if I had one complaint -- and it's a big one -- it's that the album is WAYYYYY to self-conscious about being a "Black Sabbath" album and suffers a bit for it. Too much derivative production ("THIS song needs to sound like NIB. And THAT song needs to have that WIZARD harmonica. And THOSE need to sound like SABOTAGE", etc.). It's not quite as organic sounding as it should be.

Other than that, I pretty much think it's a great addition to the catalog. It's hard to compare this album with the rest of the Ozzy era, but I like it more than Vol. 4, so I'd say #5 of 8.

After many listens, I'm finding that I really dig this, too. And I agree with Hokeyboy's observation that it doesn't feel organic enough, too trapped by the ghosts of Sabbath past.

I'm surprised Na´vetÚ in Black was made a Best Buy-only exclusive track because it's one of the best on the album.

Re: Black sabbath: reunited original band line up for new album.

A live DVD release will close out what has been a very, very good year for fans of Black Sabbath. The band has announced they’ll release ‘Black Sabbath: Live … Gathered in Their Masses’ on Nov. 26. The footage comes from two Black Sabbath tour dates from this past spring. And it’s probably not a coincidence that the announcement comes on Friday the 13th.

Many of the songs from the group’s new album ’13,’ as well as some old favorites, will likely be featured on the DVD. When the album came out in June, it debuted at No. 1 — the band’s first to take the top spot. ’13′ also marks Ozzy Osbourne‘s first album with Sabbath since 1978′s ‘Never Say Die.’

The DVD features performances shot on April 29 and May 1 in Melbourne. Those dates preceded the band’s much-anticipated North American tour, which started in July. Bassist Geezer Butler says it’s possible, maybe even likely, that this will be the group’s final tour. “I don’t know — I just got a feeling,” he told the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s getting tough, it really is. I can’t lie about that. I’m old now. It really is tough going on every night. You wake up the next day [with] pains you never had before.”

With this likely being their last tour, it's too bad they didn't come through Denver, I would have liked to see them again.

I just listened to the album in its entirety on vinyl. Definitely going on my top 10 of the year.
