Radiohead: TKOL RMX (Remix Collection) - Sept 16th

http://cdn.pitchfork.com/media/radiohead_12.jpg

from pitchfork:

This summer, Radiohead have been releasing a series of 12" singles featuring remixes of songs from the band's latest LP, The King of Limbs. Now, Radiohead fan site At Ease has unconfirmed details about the double-CD release to round up all those remixes.

The set's apparently called RADIOHEAD TKOL RMX, and it's reported to be set for a September 16 release. The collection features previously released cuts from folks like Four Tet, Caribou, Lone, Pearson Sound, and Jacques Greene, as well as yet-to-be-heard remixes from Jamie XX, SBTRKT, and Modeselektor, among others. Check out the tracklist below, as well as a stream of the latest 12", featuring remixes from Four Tet, Lone, and Pearson Sound.
RADIOHEAD TKOL RMX:

Disc 1:

01 Caribou: "Little By Little Rmx"
02 Jacques Greene: "Lotus Flower Rmx"
03 Nathan Fake: "Morning Mr Magpie Rmx"
04 Harmonic 313: "Bloom Rmx"
05 Mark Pritchard: "Bloom Rmx"
06 Lone: "Feral Rmx"
07 Pearson Sound: "Morning Mr Magpie Scavenger Rmx"
08 Four Tet: "Separator Rmx"

Disc 2:

01 Thriller: "Give Up the Ghost Houseghost Rmx"
02 Illum Sphere: "Codex Rmx"
03 Shed: "Little by Little Rmx"
04 Brokenchord: "Give Up the Ghost Rmx"
05 Altrice: "TKOL Rmx"
06 Blawan: "Bloom Rmx"
07 Modeselektor: "Good Evening Mrs Magpie Rmx"
08 Objekt: "Bloom Rmx"
09 Jamie xx: "Bloom Rework"
10 Anstam: "Separator Rmx"
11 SBTRKT: "Lotus Flower Rmx"

----------

Wish that this project covered their entire career, and not just TKOL, but this is an interesting companion piece nonetheless. Not a huge fan of most remixes but I'll still pick this up.

I've never understood the appeal of remix albums. Why do I want to hear some DJ from London cut up a perfectly good song by inserting beats and repeating chorus lines ad infinitum? I think they're all dreadful.

KillerCannibal, my opinion on the best example of a remix album done right:
Original:

Remix:

Sadly, most remix albums end up being like what you described; DJ from London inserting beats.

I agree most remixes suck but every once in a while one either improves on the original or totally recasts it to make an entirely new work.

Fixed is indeed great, another that I really liked was Beck's Guerolito and of course we can't forget The Cure's Mixed Up which I thought was outstanding.

And if you like electronic music Kruder Dorfmeister's K&D Sessions remixes is one of my favorite collections of all time, remixed or not.

Check out this remix of Radiohead's Reckoner, which I thought was pretty nice:

Is it possible for any artist to remix these songs and make them any more boring than the originals?

Maybe these remixes will actually make them better. That would be welcomed.

They don't, at all. Nothing can save these tracks from being horribly dull.

The only remix of Radiohead's music i've ever liked was the MOJB remix of Videotape. Very straightforward, just made it sound like earlier live renditions of the song.

KillerC - Thanks for the tip on the NIN remix album. Broken was always one of my favorites. I purchased all but one of the mp3 songs from Amazon.

I'm all for covers, remixes, re-done versions. If they're not good, then so be it. But there's so many examples <i>for</i> re-doing or changing a song, that it would be silly for me to not want remix albums.

Hell, one of my favorite albums (<i>DJ-Kicks: Erlend Øye</i>) is a DJ mix album.
