Quadrophenia - The Directors Cut

Looking forward to this one, I'm sure a U.S. release will follow:

The box set gives a unique insight into the creation of this landmark album and will feature a re-master of the original double album, Pete Townshend’s previously unheard demos including songs that didn’t make it onto the original album, an exclusive eight track 5.1 sound DVD, a deluxe hard-back book, previously unseen personal notes, photographs, memorabilia and other exclusive material that will be announced over the coming months.

4 CDs
5.1 DVD
Book
7" Single
A4 Collectable insert cards

I've been keeping tabs on this and it is a must buy for me. What i don't understand, though, is why they don't remix the entire album in 5.1, not just eight songs?

I've been waiting for a 5.1 Quad for years and I always figured they'd fuck it up.

Mine came in the mail today and it's put together very nicely. It goes well with the giant Live At Leeds set that came out last year.

Anyone know the rationale behind not mixing the entire album in 5.1? It's truly baffling.

If they included it, what would they release just in time for x-mas 2015?

From what the gang at SHF can surmise, it was time constraints. That's right, they couldn't complete it before the pre-Christmas release date. Those that have heard it say the 5.1 mix sucks anyway.

From what i've read elsewhere Pete's going to do the rest of the album in 5.1 and release it via bit torrent at some point in the future.

Re: Quadrophenia - The Directors Cut

I have just about everything Who I can get my hands on but i'm not paying upwards of $130 for this or the $20+ for just the cd.

Too many, just too many versions of the same thing.
I didnt even know they did Leeds again.

Only thing i want that I just cant find is the SH Who's Next cd.

Yeah, I'm sure that's going to happen. Does anyone really believe Pete is going to dedicate time to a 5.1 mix of the rest of the material and release it for free?

From what i've heard you have to have the box set to get the rest of the 5.1 mix after Pete's finished.

Just dropped under $94 on amazon. Doubt it will be that price long.

Re: Quadrophenia - The Directors Cut

In case anyone didn't know about this, The Who are doing a tour where they perform Quadrophenia in its entirety: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...-tour-20120718

I got my ticket for the January show at the Staples Center.
