Portishead--First U.S Tour in 13 Years!! (2011)
My brain just exploded. I've never seen them, but I'm trying to save for an upcoming Vacation to Vegas I booked. Decisions.....but they are easily one of my Top 5 Favorite Bands.

Bought my ticket for the 10/21 show in Berkeley. Love that the Greek Theatre is General Admission. I've never been there, but I've heard good things from friends who have been there.
For anyone interested, the pre-sale costs on the site linked in the article comes out to $66.50. I won't even imagine the Ticketmaster total once the tickets get released to them on the 15th/16th (?)

Also the pre-sale allocation on Portishead's site are sold out for Los Angeles and Berkeley (didn't check other dates).
Not sure about other places, but for the Bay Area, additional tickets for the Greek Theater show will be up on sale through Another Planet Entertainment. Check them out @ www.apeconcerts.com. On sale there starting Thursday, July 14th @ 8pm (if I'm reading that time right)

Any word on a new album? Third was a nice comeback but it is three years old now. Although Portishead albums prove to be worth the wait when they come.

Totally understand that. It's one of the reasons why I don't see a lot of "big" artists anymore. Just can't justify shelling out $50-80 to see someone live sometimes.
Though in this case and with Faith No More, I didn't know when I'd ever see them live again. Also factor in I never saw either band live before made the decision a little easier.
Most of the articles I've read on it are from last year, but they signed a new contract and are supposed to be writing for the fourth album now.

That was a lot less than what I was expecting Ticketmaster to charge. Or was it Another Planet's Fees not Ticketmaster?
I might be flying solo to this one. My g/f likes the group but she said ~$70 might be too steep for her. Another friend of mine likes the group but said she doesn't even know she'll be in town then and it's too far off.
All I know is the group hasn't toured in forever, so I'm hauling my ass there alone or not

Re: Portishead--First U.S Tour in 13 Years!! (2011)
It bumped me to ticketmaster's site.
Even if you can't find someone to go with you'll be able to unload the ticket there. If it ends up selling out quick (not to sure about that with 8500 capacity but who knows what demand will be like) you could make a good amount of money selling the ticket online.
I'm really not sure what the demand will be for this tour. I can see the shows not selling out at all, but I also wouldn't be shocked if they sold out right away. We'll see.

I'd rather not buy a ticket to take a random friend of mine, just because it's always a bummer to go see a band/group/singer you love with someone who doesn't dig them (especially if it's a long set).

Re: Portishead--First U.S Tour in 13 Years!! (2011)
Got tickets to Toronto yesterday - I was initially not going to go because of the cost, but then I figured who knows when I'll get another chance and I don't want to be kicking myself in five years like I still am for missing the Daft Punk tour however many years ago that was.
Now I've got to reacquaint myself with 'Third' - I never spent the proper time with it when it came out.

Nice!
Also @ Matt925, tickets were still available for the Berkeley show as of today (Saturday). So as you mentioned, we'll see how long it takes for this show to sell out.

Re: Portishead--First U.S Tour in 13 Years!! (2011)
It actually sold out at least a few weeks ago. I checked multiple times for my friends who lagged initially and finally said, "OK, yeah, I guess I should go," and yeah, they've been gone for a while. StubHub's going for around $100 starting.
I got mine about three seconds after they went on sale haha. The next day one of my favorite crust bands, Noothgrush, is doing a reunion show also in Berkeley, but I doubt I'd be able to convince Portishead fans to go to a crust/metal show lol.

Also I like both Noothgrush AND Portishead
I missed Noothgrush @ The Elbo Room (San Francisco) when they played the Power of The Riff Festival, so I'm going to try to head out to Gilman for that other show.

Re: Portishead--First U.S Tour in 13 Years!! (2011)
Yeah, I missed that one myself and didn't even hear about the reunion itself until like maybe a week ago or so. Though, as far as I can tell, it's only a "reunion" for three west coast shows, the Gilman one being the last one, and to re-release some older material on vinyl. Good enough for me still, but it sucks that I'm not sure about making it to the show though.
If I can make it to it, I'm not sad about missing the S.F. date since I like Gilman more and the help includes Atriarch and Dispirit, two bands I fucking love, and I didn't care much about the supporting bands at the past show.

11 days before the Berkeley show and I still haven't gotten my tickets mailed out to me from the Official Site Pre-Sale.
I've been bombarding Sandbag UK's Customer Service for an answer on this. They said tickets were in the pack/dispatch stage but that was Sept. 16th!
