Book of Mormon Original Cast Recording Now Online on NPR for Free Listen
By: Dan Bacalzo · May 9, 2011 · New York
The original cast recording of Broadway's The Book of Mormon can now be heard for free on NPR, in anticipation of the musical's previously reported digital release from Ghostlight Records on May 17, and in-store release on June 7.
The Book of Mormon, now playing at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, has been written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Tony Award winner Robert Lopez. Parker is co-directing the show with Casey Nicholaw, who also serves as the production's choreographer.
The musical follows a pair of mismatched Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that's about as far from Salt Lake City as you can get. The production, which has been nominated for 14 Tony Awards, is co-directed by Trey Parker and Casey Nicholaw, who also serves as the production's choreographer, and is co-written by Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez.
The company features Josh Gad as Elder Cunningham, Andrew Rannells as Elder Price, Nikki M. James as Nabalungi, Rory O'Malley as Elder McKinley, Michael Potts as Mafala Hatimbi, along with Scott Barnhardt, Justin Bohon, Ta'rea Campbell, Darlesia Cearcy, Kevin Duda, Asmeret Ghebremichael, Brian Tyree Henry, Tyson Jennette, John Eric Parker, Jason Michael Snow, Benjamin Schrader, Michael James Scott, Brian Sears, Lawrence Stallings, Rema Webb, Maia Nkenge Wilson and Tommar Wilson.

Tracked a few songs. Didn't really do much for me. Nothing like the "Bigger, Longer, Uncut" soundtrack which was the best musical ever.
Don't know what the big buzz is about for this one.

I've been listening to the Book of Morman first listen, it's cute I guess. I'd like to see the play.
Here is the full list of available full albums available ("first listen" series):

The one that impresses me is the Sarah Jarosz album.
That is a pretty good song - if anybody wants to listen to it, it begins at the 10:11 mark on the soundtrack (see the first post for the link).

The Book of Mormon is no longer available, though it was an interesting soundtrack.
And give the Danger Mouse a listen, it's pretty good stuff.
As for Sarah Jarosz, there should be audio from a concert she just gave available soon for free download.

Purchased the album the other night based upon rave reviews from friends.
I'm sorry, but how can anyone not like a song with a chorus of...
... is beyond me.
I think the big difference between this and past Parker/Stone efforts is that it's a homage to Broadway musicals that range from Sondheim to Rodgers and Hammerstein unlike say Bigger, Longer and Uncut which was a throw back to movie musicals. For those who are familiar with those efforts, it's automatic love. Those who are not? You might need to warm up with the album after a few listens.
I think it's pure brilliance.

You can still listen to the audio stream if you LIKE The Book of Mormon on Broadway's facebook page.
I paid full price on iTunes just 3 weeks ago. Amazon had it for $1.99 MP3 download (+digital booklet) last weekend thru Monday.
