Have you ever gone to a concert alone? If not, would you?

I've gone to two concerts by myself in the past, but I haven't done it since 2003. It felt kind of awkward at the time, but I didn't have any friends who were remotely interested in going. Both times, it was to see Matthew Good.

Now, I'm going to Dallas in two weeks, and there's two shows I'm considering going to:
- Dredg & Manchester Orchestra @ Granada Theater
- Deftones & Dillinger Escape Plan @ Verizon Theater
I know a few people in the DFW area, but none of them seem to be interested in any of those bands, so I'm most likely going to go alone. I'm a little nervous, since it's been so long since I've done it, but these bands are worth it, I think.

Have you ever gone to a concert alone? If not, would you? Which bands?

I just saw Prince by myself. I chatted with the people around me. It was fun.

I've seen a lot of shows at UCLA Live by myself as well.

Been to many shows by myself. Unfortunately most of my friends don't share the same tastes in music.

Ultimately, the question I ask myself is, am I willing to miss out on a good show just because I'm going solo?

Heck no.

If I go alone to a concert, I usually just chat with the people in line or sitting/standing next to me. We're all fans of the band we're there to see and usually have common interests.

Having seen 400+ shows in my life, I've gone solo many times.

Sometimes I will go with someone and plan on separating once inside, other times, I've gone totally alone.

Going alone is no problem, as I'm guaranteed to make new friends, given the common interest.

I saw the Reverend Horton Heat alone in Boulder because I knew absolutely no one who wanted to go. I'd missed at least half a dozen of his shows due to being first underage for the venue and then already having commitments. Alone or not, I was gonna go. I went, it was fun, though I wish I hadn't been alone; it felt awkward, particularly before the show. No cell phone apps to drown out the mundane waiting back in 2003. :)

I've been to one concert by myself. The show was great, but the experience just wasn't for me. I'm not the type of person to engage random people for chatting, so there was a lot of time spent awkwardly standing there.

I'm one of the 3 that voted never. I would never go to a concert alone, like Ed I'm not the kind of person to chat up strangers so I think it would be weird. Also, I've never missed a concert because I didn't have anyone to go with me.

Going to Eddie Vedder alone in Minneapolis this July. I'm mostly going by myself for the fact that I couldn't manage to get more than one ticket and I really wanted to go plus I only have like one, maybe two friends that were interested in going with me. No big deal to me really since I'm sure I'll still have a good time. I haven't been to that many shows though and the three I have been to so far have been with one other person, but most of the time since the shows I've been to have been just standing we got separated during the show anyways so other than driving together and arriving together it's not all that different..

Saw Elvis Costello alone at Wolf Trap (VA) two years ago. Incredible experience. The bottle of wine that I didn't have to share may have contributed to it.

Saw David Gray at a small auditorium in February. The girl who went with me kept taking pictures. I would probably have preferred going alone.

I guess I'd say that I go to concerts to hear music, not to talk about it. (Not that there's anything wrong with going for the whole concert "experience".)

I've gone solo a couple of times. Not a big deal at all. Plenty of people to talk to, especially if you're standing on the floor.

I refuse to force (or just persuade) a friend into going to a show that I know they won't like.

I saw Iron Maiden by myself around 2003 and KISS unaccompanied in 2004. No big deal. Great shows. I'm glad I went (especially since DIO opened for Maiden and a new, unknown band called ZO2 opened for KISS and they were great).

It was kind of boring waiting around for the shows to start, but they were worth the wait.

All the time. Granted, no "event" type of concerts... just small-mid sized shows. You're all bunched up anyways, I certainly don't notice who's there alone and who's not.

Once.

Saw a band that no one I know would go see and I'm kind of on the shy side, so I didn't say anything and no one talked to me.

The concert was fantastic, but I did feel like people were staring at me at times because I was alone in the 4th row.

I've been to a number of shows alone. Like others, I end up talking with the people around me.

I've probably been to about 2200 concerts in my life and I'd say at least half of them were alone, but I usually end up running into people I know while I'm there.

exactly ... and the folk my age generally like to stand in the back and sulk, me on the other go near the front to jump and down and get crazy

there's too many shows for me to list where I've gone alone.

I'm sure as hell not going to miss a band, just because I can't find someone else to join me.

I've only been to one concert by myself, I found it very weird. I'm not very outgoing around strangers, so the idea that I would chat up my neighbors is foreign to me. I don't think i'd do it again, maybe if it was something special and nobody else could go, but I don't see that happening. I'd rather just buy a ticket for somebody else and let them share the experience.

Last show I went to alone (Yo La Tengo in San Francisco), I met Georgia Hubley, got yelled at by Ira Kaplan, had a girl lick me, got lit, and almost ended up in Berkeley with another group of girls. And I showed up without a ticket.

I can't recommend it enough.

The 9:30 Club has a bar, which means you'll never drink alone.

If you had a second ticket I'd make you take me. I couldn't get any tickets and not only is Pearl Jam my favorite band, I play the ukulele. There couldn't possibly be a concert more up my alley and I won't be there. :(

I prefer it! If I didn't go to concerts alone, I never would've seen Nirvana at the LA Forum.

Easier to sneak backstage when you're alone too.

I usually go to a couple shows a year by myself. While it's generally more fun to go with friends, IMO, sometimes you can really zero in your focus on the music and performance when you're on your own.
