Re: 80s synth bands

Before I got into them and just heard them from soundtracks, The Ghost in You was always my favorite of there's over Love My Way or Pretty in Pink. Now, Mirror Moves is one of my favorite albums.

Blue Nile. GREAT band. That debut is five star all the way.

Re: 80s synth bands

Psychedelic Furs aren't really a synthpop band, though. My favorite songs of theirs are "Into You Like A Train", "Imitation of Christ" and "Sister Europe".

Not '80s, and not exactly snythpop, but Lycia is a great darkwave band that uses keyboards extensively.

I would've never thought of this and didn't even know ministry started out like this. I prefer this a hell of a lot more to the industrial metal stuff. A lot of ministry fans seem to hate this from what I've been reading. I've seen someone say that he denies being into this music but then why do you see him performing these songs years after the album was released? Definitely sounds fishy to me.

Re: 80s synth bands

^ Yeah, as I indicated above, my personal theory is that Al got hooked on smack and started hanging around "tough guys" that probably teased him mercilessly for his faux British accent and for singing "girly" music. He's spent the next several decades trying to prove what a man he is.

With Sympathy is one of the New Wave synthpop greats. I'm really surprised you didn't know about that.

Personal note: I was the first person to ever post the "Revenge" video on YouTube.

Re: 80s synth bands

I wasn't even born when most of these bands were around so that explains why I don't know a ton of them. I actually only got more heavily into Gary Numan after years of just having his first few albums. I always was much more into 60s obscure rock music so I know a lot about that.

I uploaded old rare music videos on youtube for the first time too- then other people stole my uploads.

To be honest, I've only been able to procure it in ways that we aren't allowed to discuss here. So, I guess not.

My new wave folder is very large, but for some odd reason I never listened to this album until you mentioned it in this thread. I had heard "Halloween" and "I'm Falling" from early days, but not this whole recording. Wow. If I had heard this back in '83 it would have been one of my favorite albums of the year (it's tough to gauge hearing for the first time in 2011). I was blown away with "A Mind Is A Terrible Thing" when it came out in '89. I love hearing how this band transformed through the years.

Re: 80s synth bands

These guys sound a lot like Human League:

Although I like this tune of theirs better, which sounds a lot like early Eurythmics (embedding is disabled for this one)

This one is great if you like French girls in minskirts, ARP synths or both:

This is only semi-obscure but I loved these guys:

Oh man, I used to love Elli et Jacno. I wish I could get a hold of their stuff somewhere...

Re: 80s synth bands

Recently found another 80's synthpop band thanks to youtube: Dhuo. It looks like they were an Italian band that sung English lyrics.

Re: 80s synth bands

Planet P Project is a good pop band. I really like their minor hit Why Me, but my favorite is Static
