"New" KATE BUSH cd coming May 16th, 2011
Kate Bush has announced that she will be releasing Director's Cut, her first album in six years, on May 16th. The record will be comprised of rerecorded, reworked and otherwise altered versions of songs from two previous albums, 1989's The Sensual World and 1993's The Red Shoes. Details about these new tracks have not been revealed, but Bush's statement says that the Director's Cut versions keep "the best musical performances of each song."
Director's Cut will be released digitally, as a CD in a case-bound book, a vinyl double album, and as a CD box set containing the new disc along with the original versions of The Sensual World and The Red Shoes.
The statement also mentioned that Bush is working on an album of new material, her first since Aerial was released in 2005.

Well, balls. I didn't pick up on the new in double quotes. I'm sure some Kate is better than no Kate. But I would have preferred an album of new material.

One of the best know voices around. I love her stuff and her rendition of "Rocket Man" on the tribute album to Elton and Bernie is great.

Well, here's the first single from the covers album:

I've heard just about everything Kate's ever recorded, and I think this is probably the single worst thing she's ever put on tape. And I like the original version of the song.

Thanks for posting the new song. Not the worst thing I've ever heard from her, but I do agree the original tune is better.

Definitely picking this up only for the remastered Sensual World and Red Shoes. Cannot wait to hear The Sensual World (title track) in remastered form. That album has some of the best material ever from her like Never Be Mine but the low volume sucks.

Are The Sensual World and The Red Shoes getting remastered, or will they just be repackaging the original albums along with the new recordings?
And if they are being remastered, can we please also get remasters of The Kick Inside, Lionheart, Never For Ever, and most especially The Dreaming?

Luckily the rest of the album is nowhere near as bad as "Deeper Understanding." However, none of it feels necessary. None of the re-recordings are preferable to the original versions, nor do they present anything interesting. "This Woman's Work" is the most drastic change, but as that's one of her best songs, it's nowhere near as good. It appears that The Sensual World and The Red Shoes that come with the 3-disc edition are indeed remastered. If it weren't for that, I'd say pass on this completely.

Always nice to hear Kate, but this one left me feeling a little meh.
I wondered how if the years would be kind to her upper register. I'd still like to hear an entire album of new originals. Ms. Kate has an ethereal quality that's hard to emulate.

I have to say, I've now listened to this about a half-dozen times, and absolutely love it. The way she slows down the songs, and re-invents them into a more gentle, moving version is nothing short of spectacular. I really enjoyed Ariel, but I'm pretty sure I like this better. Perhaps I can make a suggestion to those who feel this is not one of her best works...listen to it thru headphones.
