Should Madonna get royalties? Express Yourself, Vogue...

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

I heard the song this morning and didn't like it at all. It sounds like a bad remix, instead of an actual song. I think it would've been better as a ballad.
Yeah she should totally give Madonna royalties.

I guess no one had the guts to tell her it sounds like a complete Madonna ripoff.

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

I'm not homophobic in any way, but this was just way too gay for me to enjoy. I need another "Paparazzi".

Ah well, back to Primal Scream's Screamadelica

Great as usual, but totally parallels Express Yourself.

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

Obviously, I don't think she's trying to trick anyone by homaging Madonna. It's quite appropriate that she would and intentional I'm very sure. I don't think anyone could really say that Lady Gaga can't write a good original pop tune, IMHO.

I like Gaga a lot. I like lots of various kinds of music, but primarily my tastes are pretty clichéd indie/hipster/music snob whatever you wanna call it.

All that said, this song isn't doing it for me yet.

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

And such deep lyrics

Don't be a drag, be a queen
Whether you're broke or evergreen
You're black, white, beige chola descent
You're Lebanese, You're Orient
Whether life's disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today
Cause baby you we're born this way
No matter gay, straight, or bi
Lesbian, transgendered life
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or Orient made
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to be brave

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

I just think the song has been too hyped up. She sang those few bars month's ago, released the album title, teased pictures, released the lyrics, then we heard Elton John say that this would take over I Will Survive as the new gay anthem. She then pushed the release date up because she 'just couldn't wait any longer.' It's just too much overexposure. The reason her other songs worked so well, even if she was ripping off people like Madonna is that we didn't expect them to be that good. I mean, Bad Romance came out of nowhere and blew the pop world open. So the song is a pretty good pop song, but totally underwhelming in the same way that a lot of overhyped movies are. Wished it was better.

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

She really needs to pay Madonna for allowing her to carry on her style of music, regardless of whether the similarities are intentional (don't tell me they're not).

I wonder if Ryan Murphy is already trying to find a way to work a version of this song into "Glee" ?

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

To her credit, her other music has its own vibe to it, it isn't as Madonna-esque as some people make it out to be.

This, though, singing style, music style, everything is Madonna. And it is a little too uhh geared toward another team.

The lyrics for some reason remind me of Zero by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs ( And I can't figure out why.), only way more self important.

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

No royalties for Madonna. Pure Gaga. Doesn't sound like Express Yourself and only similarity to Vogue is it is a white woman rapping.

Has a rock sound to it but not quite as catchy as Bad Romance, Telephone, or Alejandro. Will require repeated listens to get into it.

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

It really sounds to me like a mashup of Madonna's Vogue, Express yourself and a touch of David Guetta's When Love takes Over... I think it is alright, but do find the lyrics are pandering a little bit to a very specific demo, which I am not a part of. I freely admit to loving Gaga, as a straight guy, and think everything she's done previous is pretty brilliant... but parts of this song are pretty weak. Certainly not worth the hype and I really hope the rest of the album is a little more original.

The album is due in MAY. Yes, May - they are getting a very very early jump on getting hype going by releasing this single now.

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

Yeah... I liked this song better when it was called "Express Yourself" and it was sung by Madonna.

And this song is like the movie Crash in the "beat you over the head until you get the message" sense.

I think the song is great but what I really want is for the video to drop.

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

So 'God makes no mistakes' then she says that being transgender is ok because they were born this way? Really? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't being transgender a choice. If God makes no mistakes, then why would these people want to change themselves?

Re: New Gaga single "Born this Way"

Heard it the other day and assumed it was a Madonna song. I don't like/listen to Madonna or Gaga, but it fooled me... she/he/it is ripping off Madonna big time.

Good point. But then again, everyone tries to changes themselves for what they feel is better.
I think that she means, it's not a mistake in how they are on the inside.

But anyways, I listened to this song after reading about it here, and wow, it really does sound like a Madonna song! I don't really like it. When I first heard "Poker Face" it sounded like a really generic pop song from the 90s.

Then I heard "Just Dance," "Alejandro," and "Bad Romance," and they sounded really different, atleast to me. This sounds too much like another song.

OK, I listened to it with an open mind. Awful song. Obvious Madonna rip-off (though isn't her whole shtick?) Will never listen to it willingly again.

Are those the only two choices?
