The Best of Bootie Appreciation Thread

Last night, Bootie (link to Wiki) released their annual "best of the year" compilation album. Like the past five years worth of releases, of course, this one was free too.
If you haven't listened to any of the "Best of Bootie" albums, I highly recommend checking them out. The best way to describe it is 75-minutes of straight mash-ups. Most of the songs utilize recent popular songs as the 2010 release sees Ke$ha going against Vanilla Ice, Lady GaGa versus Metallica, and Cee Lo with Van Halen; but we do have LL Cool J with Dexy's Midnight Runners alongside Nirvana and the Jackson Five (it's like there's something for everybody). Even if you hate today's music because its garbage (which it mostly is) the Best of Bootie albums are worth a listen... and they make an awesome workout mix too.
If you're ever in Los Angeles, I'd highly recommend checking out the Bootie nights they do every first and third Saturday at the Echoplex. The rare occurrences I'm in Los Angeles on a weekend, if Bootie is going down, I'm there.
I've been listening to the 2010 release today and it's not one of the greatest releases (2005 and 2006 are by far the best of the compilations) and it's not the worse (2007 or 2008 might take that title), but it's somewhere in the middle with 2009.

EDIT: In terms of legality, proceed with your own caution. Because Best of Bootie may be 'transformative' of original content, they're most likely finding protection from copyright claims under the "fair use" doctrine.

Just curious... is it "legal" because they're not charging anything for it? I'm reminded of Danger Mouse's problems with EMI and the Grey Album.

What's interesting to note in the scenario with Danger Mouse in response to the Grey Album is that the initial website got pulled shortly after the album started to make waves within the industry. The Bootie website has been up and running for at least the past five years minimum.
Unless we're in a situation similar to Girl Talk whereas the use of the samples could be legal. The main difference between Bootie and Girl Talk is that Bootie are not using the downloads for commercial or economic gain.

Well, aside from drawing people to their website, selling ads, etc.

Some really great mashups there. California Jump is just insane ear candy.
The Jackson 5/Nirvana one... I'm almost offended by what they did to the Nirvana song yet it's sort of brilliant in a Dr. Frankenstein sort of way.
