I was five and remember Howard Cosell mentioning it on Monday Night Football. I was in front of the TV playing with my matchbox cars while my dad watched the game. Didn't understand what was happening of course. Still one of my earliest memories.

Bah. I don't give a shit about Lennon's personal life which is mostly what that article deals with (except the "talentless" section which is truly preposterous, to use your word).

I just loved his music.

Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Lou Reed are my three favorite musicians of all time and I wouldn't call any of them wonderful human beings based on what I have read about them. Their music is still amazing.

I have zero problem with anyone liking the guys music - I just cringe every time I hear "He was an amazing man" - na, he really wasn't.
