NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
Link
They've done it without making it an actual list, but rather a collection of album covers, one at a time. So, I haven't added the easy-to-read list here yet. Click the link to start at #75. It's actually a pretty decent list, too! Top ten... for now... 1. These New Puritans - Hidden 2. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs 3. Beach House - Teen Dream 4. LCD Soundsystem - This is Happening 5. Laura Marling - I Speak Because I Can 6. Foals - Total Life Forever 7. Zola Jesus - Stridulum II 8. Salem - King Night 9. Liars - Sisterworld 10. The Drums - The Drums and the rest... Spoiler:
And for those of you with Spotify, here's a playlist with most of the albums, but not all. |

Yep. I'm offically out of it.

Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
Wow, I've got an album by one of those acts!
Of course, it's a 40-year-old album by Gil Scott-Heron. |
Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
I think they have #1 and #2 switched by mistake. :)

Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
All these damn hipster bands and their indie music.
I was somewhat disappointed to see Bob Dole's Frigid Arm and The Sad Tread of My Tires not on the list. |
Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
Reminds me of the yearly Pitchfork top 100 list. 97 hipster bands with 2 or 3 bands more than 10 people have actually listened to thrown in.

Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
MGMT's last album is #19? REALLY? Then it truly was a shitty year for music...
|
Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
I have 3 of those albums...
|
Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
Glad to see These New Puritans topping the list - the rest of the Top 10 I could take or leave (mostly leave), but 'Hidden' is still blowing my mind almost a full year later.

Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
I tried to listen to the Klaxons album and I couldn't make it thru the whole thing. The cover is easily the best part of the release.

55. Ikonika - Contact, Love, Want, Have
For all the hype this album caused, I was pretty underwhelmed. Considering dubstep's ubiquity these days, I could come up with 20+ producers doing better things this year... j |

Looks like a damn good list. Need to check out some stuff I'm not familiar with. So far, I'd probably put that Deerhunter album near the top.

Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
I love seeing Zola Jesus in the Top 10, as she is probably in my top 5 this year, but The Foals & These New Puritans? Clearly there is some bias or connection there as these are two completely unoriginal acts and albums that sound like dozens of other bands that all do it better while some of the truly best albums of the year they have ranked at the bottom of the list.

Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
The only album I have from that list is The National - High Violet. It is a really good record though.

Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
Bands/Artists I have heard of from the list
2. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs 4. LCD Soundsystem - This is Happening 19. MGMT - Congratulations 21. Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid 24. Vampire Weekend - Contra 34. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy 38. Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty 44. Manic Street Preachers - Postcards From a Young Man 48. My Chemical Romance - Danger Days 53. Kelis - Flesh Tone 60. Belle and Sebastian - Write About Love 62. Gil Scott-Heron - I'm New Here 66. Gorillaz - Plastic Beach 73. Interpol - Interpol The ones in bold are the ones I could identify at least one of their songs if I heard it. The others I probably know their songs and might even dig a few but don't know they are the ones that perform them. I know I like a MGMT song or two couldnt tell you the names of them. |

Wow, that is a whole lot of bland.

Re: NME's Top 75 albums of 2010
Listened to some samples of each of the top 10. Brutal. I'm glad I'm out of it. Laura Marling could be interesting to check out. The Drums actually seemed to be aware of melody unlike the rest of the list too.

Edwyn Collins ain't exactly a household name. Certainly not in the US. I've heard the name but couldn't name a song by him.
