Doing bands only (no individual artists):
Sonic Youth
The Residents
Steely Dan
Depeche Mode
Belle & Sebastian

If we're going to include solo artists:
David Bowie
Peter Gabriel
Bjork
Laurie Anderson
Paul Weller

The Arcade Fire
The Innocence Mission
Moonbabies
The Tragically Hip
The Wrens (although they have never been all that active)

I would have to put some thought into individual artists. Definitely Lights, maybe Phosphorescent and Joe Henry.

KISS
Iron Maiden
Deep Purple
UFO
Armored Saint

DIO would have been in that group, but Ronnie's death put an end to that in May, unfortunately. They were active until a year ago and even recorded a new song in Sept/Oct of 2009.

Re: 5 Favorite Currently Active Bands/Groups?

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (or Grinderman)
Modest Mouse
Sage Francis & Co.

I don't really listen to much music, other than these guys. Most other stuff is just 'meh, not as good as these guys'.

Well as long as I'm just stretching the limit. I was unsure of Front 242's current status, and they are probably in actuality inactive, so I guess I'll go ahead and replace them with Portishead. Happy?
