Pulp to reunite in 2011

Pulp Reunite for Shows Next Year
Brit legends back together for first gigs since 2002

"Is this the best news you've heard all year?" is one of many adequately cheeky questions popping up on Pulp's official website right now. It's an apropos query: The iconic Sheffield band's classic lineup-- Jarvis Cocker, Nick Banks, Candida Doyle, Steve Mackey, Russell Senior, and Mark Webber-- are set to reunite for a string of shows next summer, starting with a headlining slot at Barcelona's Primavera Sound Festival on May 27. The only other date announced thus far is at London's Wireless Fest on July 3, but more are to follow according to a poster on their Facebook (which you can view below).

This is exciting.

The band's Facebook also states that this is the first time all original members will perform on a stage together since August 24, 1996. (The last Pulp gig took place in December 2002 at Rotherham, England's Auto Festival.) You can sign up for updates on the reunion at the band's site.

The slideshow on their site is kinda funny: http://www.pulppeople.com/

So, who wants to sponsor my trip to Barcelona and/or London?

I love Pulp, and I really hope they come to the states, although that seems unlikely.

Yeah they'd be playing small theaters here not festivals.

And I would be totally fine with that. Festivals seem great to me in theory, but in practice I hate them. (Why, oh why can't more take place in the cool autumn air?)

Pulp's one of my favorite bands, but I didn't get into them until shortly before they broke up, so I never got to see them live. I'm doubting any US dates will come of this (well, maybe a non-headlining festival gig or two), but it'd be very nice if some do pop up.

I'd looove to see Pulp again, but I bet it will be like the Blur reunion, a few dates in and around the UK, but no US visit.

will go to the London Wireless fest though.

This is probably not a good idea. His n' Hers through We Love Life is pretty much four albums of perfection for me but that ended almost ten years ago. At this point, I don't get the idea of reforming beyond a money grab. I really didn't like JC's solo stuff so I con't see them putting out new music that's as good as their prime. There probably was a reason why they broke up and they went out at the top of their game. They should have just called it day.

Unless I'm missing something, it doesn't sound like they're reforming to write new albums - just to tour together and play the old hits. One could say it's a cash grab, but that's what every tour is all about, so I'm cool with it.

I'm considering going to London for this. Seriously.

One of my all time favourite bands. I got to see them once (This is Hardcore tour) and it was incredible.... I really hope they hit Toronto. Please?

Don't care where.
Don't care how.

I'm there!

If I recall, when they split they said it was temporary and that they'd probably get back together at some point to do something like this, so this is totally not a surprise - especially given the recent success of other reunions such as Blur.

I'd be shocked to see any North American shows but if there was one I would totally be there as I never got the chance to see them.

I'm thinking about the London show, too. I've certainly done stupider things, and I'd love a decent excuse to head over there again.

That's the way I see it. I haven't been to London since 1997. I'm long overdue for a visit.

Re: Pulp to reunite in 2011

This is kind of hypocritical (since I haven't really seen a HUUUUGE show in the U.S.), but it's a lot of fun to see a band like that in their country. I know I've posted about this before, but I saw the "final" James show at Wembley Arena in 2001 with 12,000 other people and that was a blast. And then of course I saw them a year or two ago in my hometown with a few hundred people.

I'd probably travel to go to this, but would prefer a NYC show. I've seen Jarvis dj a party in 03, and saw him live on his first solo tour, but Pulp is one of the bands I need to cross off the list of bands I need to see. Like Pavement this year, and the Manic Street Preachers last year.

I bought a pre-sale ticket to the London gig.
Be quick, as they'll soon be gone, and the gig will probably sell out very fast on the regular sale!
