top 25 greatest bassists of all time according to Music Radar

I expect this to get a lot of 'worst list ever' nods. And yes, this was indeed a fan voting list

I actually rolled my eyes at number 3, cause his bass was always burried in the mix whether on cd or live.

Yeah, fan voted for sure. Some are too high and others are too low.

I can't believe Stanley Clarke isn't anywhere on the list, one of the greatest bass players of all time... -kd5-

Squire is Top 5, not languishing at 14.

No Tony Levin?

I just figured out who Paul Gray was. My guess is he's #3 for being dead.

Yep, saw him on the bassists tour at a pretty small theater in Huntington LI. They were great and Clarke has to be on any list of this sort.

Les Claypool needs to be WAY higher on that list.

Re: top 25 greatest bassists of all time according to Music Radar

I guess it's too soon to be added an "all-time" list, but I think Chris Wolstenholme is one of the best bass players I've ever heard. And quite frankly think he's better than most on that list.

Re: top 25 greatest bassists of all time according to Music Radar

how the hell is Donald Duck Dunn not on this list? He's usually regarded very highly as far as bassists.

how about actually amazing innovative bass players be listed? Guys like Ronnie Lane, Chas Chandler, Mick Karn etc.? I always hate these lists.

Paul Gray is a joke to even have on this whether he passed away or not. It's like having Kurt Cobain on the top guitarists list- the guy sucked at playing guitar lets face it.

I think Cliff Burton was a great bass player, but I've always thought he might be a tad overrated because he died young.

With any of these kind of lists there are going to be endless gripes over omissions or inclusions, but I simply cannot believe that Bernard Edwards is not among the 25 greatest bassists of all time.

I guess I should be embarrassed that I don't recognise a single name in the top six. But I don't.
