Manic Street Preachers: "Postcards From A Young Man" - Sept. 20

Tracklisting:

1. "(It's Not War) Just the End of Love"
2. "Postcards from a Young Man"
3. "Some Kind of Nothingness" (feat. Ian McCulloch)
4. "The Descent (Pages 1 & 2)"
5. "Hazleton Avenue"
6. "Auto-Intoxication"
7. "Golden Platitudes"
8. "I Think I've Found It"
9. "A Billion Balconies Facing the Sun"
10. "All We Make Is Entertainment"
11. "The Future Has Been Here 4 Ever"
12. "Don't Be Evil"

Anyone hear this yet? I've been listening to it nonstop for a week plus and love it. It's definitely no sequel to "Journal For Plague Lovers," and reminds me quite a bit of "Everything Must Go" in the way it followed "The Holy Bible."

I agree Giles. WTF!? I couldn't go to Philadelphia to see them during the week. When was the last time they played D.C.?

the year is escaping me, but there was a date and everything for them to perform at the 9:30 Club, but a family member of one of the band members got seriousily ill and the Manics had to cancel the tour.

it didn't dawn on me til I remembered that Sept. 20th, which is a Monday - that this news is for the UK release. There's been no official word what the street date/US release of the album will be - CDWow and Amazon (including postage and handling) is listing the 2CD version at around 26 bucks (give or take the dollar to pound conversion rate), obviousily the single CD edition is less than that.

I have to see this band live at least once in my lifetime. So if they don't come to D.C. I'll do my best to go see them in Philly or NYC.

actually they don't have a single excuse not to perform in the DC area if and when they announce the next North American tour - most every UK band has made it a point to play at the 9:30 - why their booker blatantly ignored it's Washington/Baltimore fans is unexcuseable (but hey alot of bands don't make it to our city) - the death of WHFS and specifically 'Now Hear This' was a terrible blow to the city and it's credibilty as a tour stop for many up and coming and well established UK and international bands. The last time the Manics officially played remotely near DC was when they were one of the opening bands for Oasis at Nissan Pavillion.

Just heard the album and I really like it. It debuted in the top 10 in the UK (no surprise). But in it's third week, at #22. Sample the songs:

I didn't like the album at first because it was so over-produced (an orchestra on most of the songs and a rather overbearing choir didn't help), but the songs are so good, that I overcame that and I can't stop listening to it now. Fantastic album full of great songs. Though I'm not sure why they let Wire sing on song #11 - he's okay on backing vocals, but the dude cannot carry a tune on his own and is terrible as a lead vocalist.

^ I didn't mind it the first time, but again the Manics have pulled it off ... again! producing another solid album - one of my faves of the year.

I bet the American release will have bonus tracks that are b-sides from their single.
Any, or all of these:

- I'm Leaving You For Solitude (a decent song, but definitely a "B-side")
- Distractions (a fantastic song, and would be one of the best from the album, were it on there)
- Ostpolitik (an okay instrumental - sounds like it was written for lyrics that never came)
