Blind Musical Taste Test #6 - Rock, of some sort...

I thought I'd give this another shot.

I have no idea how to classify these guys. I guess if I had to classify them I'd call them a Metal/Rock/Alternative/Power Pop/Thrash band as they've had all those elements in their music at some point or another. Sometimes all of those in the same song.

There are two songs here from a longer Suite, thus the abrupt ending.

Have fun with this one...

The music at the beginning sounds like early Nirvana, I like the hook. Not a big fan of the singing (sounds like a Weird Al parody of a Blink 182 song).

Yeah, the consistent thread running through these, uh, threads, is that I don't like the vocals. I can almost tolerate the cheesy, overproduced pop-metal guitar sound, but the vocals are a joke.

Not a blind test for me. I recognized the band right off and had an idea of who it would be from the description. I don't have the album anymore, and I can't really say that I would dig it today.
Spoiler:
At least part of their initial appeal to me was that they were local and when they went from DGC to Metal Blade I guess it indicated some form of "street cred" that meant something to me at the time.
I don't think I can approach the music as if hearing it for the first time. I would mention that they had an energy in a live setting that I thought never made it to disc.

I assume this is from the other spoilered comments:

Spoiler:
Galactic Cowboys

I never liked the Metal Blade stuff (which coincided with the original guitarist's departure). But the S/T debut and Space In Your Face are awesome. I saw these guys open for Dream Theater in 1993 and was hooked.

It's not that bad, but it has no real direction.
