Ego out of control alert: Katy Perry on her new album

This was snipped from the Newbury Comics newsletter, I have no clue where it came from, so I can't properly attribute it.

And then, of course, there's the passionate, thumping title track. "I called the album 'Teenage Dream' because I feel like I will always want to be that pin-up poster," Katy says. "I definitely want to be in everybody's dreams at all times until I get to Liz Taylor's age when I'm not in your dreams anymore, and I'm just a diva!"
That's approaching Robin-Quivers levels of narcissism, don'tcha think?

Anything to keep a grasp on brief fame. She already had a failed career as a Christian rock artist.

Hell I'd do her... I've heard worse.

She's the voice of a generation. Even with them bug-eyes.

I always hate this defense of a "musician". Is there really not enough free porn in the world that we have to prop up these female artists based solely on their willingness to get almost naked while singing their crappy music?

That seemed tongue-in-cheek to me, especially the quip about Liz Taylor at the end.

I was just putting the preemptive DVD Talk response to threads about women in place. (See "What Does This Board Think of Jennifer Aniston" thread in Movie Talk)

Although I've only heard that one song of hers, and she actually sounds more like a man, baby.

Oh, Katy Perry. I read the first 4 words of the thread title and figured it was Brandon Flowers.

Hey Katy, sorry about the bug-eyes thing, I'll be in my office.

You're absolutely right. We should only be propping up crappy female artists who are willing to get fully naked while singing their crappy music.

No nip, no vag, no sale!

I thought everyone in this thread might be interested to know you can get her underwear if you buy her CD this week at Best Buy.

Well, its a pair of boxer shorts with 'Teenage Dream' printed on the ass. Yeah, I was kind of creeped out when I saw it in the Sunday ads in my paper.

The fact that you guys are taking Katy Perry so seriously is pretty funny.

Has anyone really taken Katy Perry seriously in this thread?

Re: Ego out of control alert: Katy Perry on her new album

Taking her seriously or not, she's still an idiot. Her celebrity is more famous than her music and that makes me automatically hate her. Plus, she's not that attractive, and she was a complete vocal bitch about Radiohead's In Rainbows deal.

She may be joking in that interview, but needless to say, that is the kind of attention that kind of person is after, so it's not that funny.

I have to admit that the 'failed Christian artist' thing gave me a smile. I never knew that she tried that career path, failed, then got instantly famous for singing about making out with girls. I'm not sure that I've ever heard of any Christian artist doing that...but I'm not really into that music scene.

As for her, the songs are catchy and easy to remember. She's beautiful and has an amazing rack. Not my kind of music, but I totally see the appeal.

To be fair, she recorded her Christian album in 2001 at 17, then switched to doing mainstream music soon after. She bounced around the recording industry for several years, recording parts of two albums that were never released before her big breakthrough in 2008.

I might be a metal-head, but I can still appreciate a good pop song when I hear one, and she's got a bunch. You can call me a fan.

Re: Ego out of control alert: Katy Perry on her new album

A Christianity Today editor wrote this recently:

Eight years ago, I interviewed Katy Hudson for a cover story for our sister publication Campus Life, our now defunct magazine for teenagers. The story, titled "The New Girls of Christian Music," also featured Stacie Orrico, Rachael Lampa, Paige Lewis, and Joy Williams, all of whom went on to enjoy more successful careers in Christian music than Hudson. But today, all four could well be featured in a story titled, "Where Are They Now?"

Not so for Katy Hudson, who has since gone on to change her name to Katy Perry, becoming one of the biggest female pop stars in the world. I could hardly imagine, talking to the then 17-year-old Hudson, that she'd someday be an international music idol, in a sense. But even back then, she seemed to be seeking craving attention in unique ways. After a concert at a local church, she met people at her merch table with the words "I'm Katy" written on her forehead with a black Sharpie. She had also put a black star around a big zit on her chin (today, ironically, she's a pitchwoman for Proactiv acne treatment), and she'd blackened out a tooth.

At the time (that's her one and only Christian CD cover, at left), I wrote, "Katy Hudson's motto might well be, 'What you see is what you get.' And with Katy, you never know what you'll see. Or get." I described her as "a regular teen, trying to figure out faith and life and everything in between." And she told me, "I just want to be real. I'll never wear a mask."

Ditto.

As far as what she said above, I don't take it to be serious.
