"Puttin' On The Style" by Lonnie Donegan - a good song most wouldn't know about

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzqiLf503qQ

from "Wiki:"
Puttin' On the Style was a 1957 hit for skiffle artist Lonnie Donegan. It was recorded live at the London Palladium and released as a double A side along with Gamblin' Man and reached #1 in the UK charts in June and July 1957, where it spent two weeks in this position. The song was written by Norman Cazden, and produced by Alan Freeman and Michael Barclay.

Most people would only, maybe, know Lonnie Donegan through his Top 10 hit "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor Overnight", but after accidentally stumbling across "Puttin' On The Style", I favor it over the American hit.

No previous mentions of Skiffle in any Spinal Tap threads?

I'm only familiar with his music because of Beatles documentaries.

The album Donegan did with Van Morrison and Chris Barber is a lot of fun.

Mom had the Chewing Gum song 45 when I was a kid. I was surprised to find out he had an actual career. I do have a Lonnie Donegan collection, and this is a cute, catchy song. Skiffle consisted of a large number of American folk songs, from traditional stuff like Rock Island Line to Woody Guthrie numbers. Jack of Diamonds was a big hit for him in England, but I don't think anything other than the chewing gum song made it over here.

I can now recognize Buttmunker threads by the third word in the title.
