Favorite R&B female?

Wondering who are your favorite modern ladies of R&B? I love Rihanna, she's so classy.

Re: Favorite R&B female?

Most female R&B singers do absolutely nothing for me. Only one I actually like is Rihanna.

Re: Favorite R&B female?

Great list, mickey65. I like all those women especially Donna, Toni, Anita, Whitney, Tina, Patti and Sade. Another favorite is Vanessa Williams. So many black divas.

Add Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Mary, Tamia and of course Beyonce among the contemporaries. Plus little heard of Anastacia to the mix. Rihanna is more pop.

Oops - forgot Mariah Carey!

I really don't care much for what's out there right now, altho Jennifer Hudson is pretty good.

I'm more of an "old school" type of music fan.

Way to read, posters. He said "modern" pretty clearly...

Of recent artists, I like Janelle MonŠe.

Toni Braxton's newest "Pulse." Great album. Buy it and support good R&B music.

He also said "Rihanna", who isn't an R&B artist. I like Fantasia, Monica, Brandy, Whitney Houston & Toni Braxton.

Re: Favorite R&B female?

Agree with a bunch that have been mentioned, especially the old timers. (Hey, what can I say, I'm old too!)

I've been listening to a lot Betty LaVette over the past couple years. The album she did with the Drive-By Truckers is amazing. Also, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings are some kickin' old-style r&b.

There are some white girls who also qualify as really good in my book - Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, Janis Joplin and Dusty Springfield off the top of my head.

Re: Favorite R&B female?

I've alway been an old school music kind of guy too. That's when people could sing. Also, there isn't much real R&B out these days.

On that note, one woman who no one has mentioned yet is Chaka Khan.

A-Keys for me. She's been amazingly consistent since her debut.
