Musicians you wish would retire

I may think of more as time wears on but for now I wish the Rolling Stones would just freakin' retire (fer' cryin' out loud). Tired of seeing/hearing about 67 year old stringy wrinkly Mick Jagger and old/tired/wrinkly heroin addict Keith Richards still trying to strut their grandfatherly stuff onstage, makes me want to puke.

Wish they would just retire, relax in their twilight years with all their millions... -kd5-

Eminem should retire. Actually I haven't listened to him in years. Does he still rap about killing his wife or has he moved on?

While they are long in the tooth, they have only once gone to the, "Farewell," card (2000) - and that did turn out to be the last tour with the original line-up.

I don't have a problem with any older band continuing to play - as long as they can still cut it both in the studio and on stage. Ronnie James Dio was a great example of age not meaning squat - the guy was still one of the very best right up until the end (at the age of 67).

I wish they'd all retire, and stop making such a racket.

And, while they're at it, they need to get off my lawn!

Ah, this ought to be a fun thread. Give me awhile to get back to you. I'm going to go compile a large list of every artist I either hate or don't get and put it here. Certain to offend many of you. Heh, heh . . .

None. The ones I don't like, I don't listen to. Although I would like Shakira to retire right on my face.

They did the farewell, now they are on the Beach Boys milk it for all it's worth leg, not matter how few members are actually in the bad tour.

Also add Ozzy to the list, the last few albums have been pretty poor and it would ideally remove his wife from the spotlight.

Any of the 70's revival acts - Styx, Doobie Bros, Heart, Blue Oyster Cult. All good in their day but now they are milking it for people who have an inability to move on.

What does that even mean? Does music have a shelf life?

Re: Musicians you wish would retire

It's not that I don't have an inability to move on, it's that I have an inability to stomach the lack of real creativity in the music of today.

Yesterday's music will always have its place in my album collection. -kd5-

They're not billing them as farewell tours. They're just going through all of their marketing slogans in naming their current tours.

Re: Musicians you wish would retire

Barry Manilow. But in all seriousness..........
Too many to name. Basically any artist or rock band from the '60s/'70s/'80s who hasn't released a decent studio album of new material in the past fifteen years. They know who they are.

Here is a list of artists from those eras who still kick ass (in my opinion) and who should not retire:
-AC/DC
-Alice Cooper
-Armored Saint
-Dio*
-Iron Maiden
-Judas Priest
-Megadeth
-Motorhead
-Rush
....just to name a few.

*Yeah, I know he passed away. But even at his age he still continued to record great music (and still would if he was alive).

There is no part of this statement that isn't ridiculous.

The only part you could even argue is U2 and that would definitely be a minority opinion.

Edit: I take that back. The thread details musicians you "wish: would retire, not who "should" retire. More power to you although your music collection must be pretty narrow.

Did Dio's cd sales back up what you said? Just asking.

I saw The Stones in 2005 and they absolutely rocked, and not as a nostalgia act. Metallica opened for them and The Rolling Stones still put on a better show. So I disagree with your assessment that they should retire.
