Lately, I've noticed a new trend occuring on the rock charts. The same bands are appearing not once, twice, but up to three times in the top 50. Bands like Five Finger Death Punch, Alice and Chains and Stone Temple Pilots are hogging at least two slots on the charts.

Rock music and me don't agree anymore. All these bands that get played on the radio sound exactly the same... your breaking benjamins, puddle of mudds, disturbed... and people will say those are *good bands. Then you got the other end of the spectrum with indie bands... that all sound like they came off the Garden State soundtrack. I haven't found anything special yet.
I still do listen to the radio and I used to listen to rock stations all the time because of the music. Now I listen to a Pop music station, because that's still unique to me.

I stopped caring what genre any particular type of music falls under a long time ago. I just know what sounds good to me: Polka!

It's because the major labels don't want to take any gambles anymore - music is just another commodity. I knew that when they started showing commercials on TV in the late 90s/early 00s trying to hock albums that we were near the end. That and it used to be more of an organic thing - a band would get together out of love for music, tour for a few (or many) years and refine their material, put out a couple of records and then maybe break it big. It seems as if a lot of these bands are just professional musicians thrown together with the marketing machine behind them. There are good indie bands still and a few of the better known acts are still making good music, but there hasn't been any movement or nothing notable to happen in quite some time.
