Also, they could be doing the whole "two albums" method. I'm sure that's a possibility. That, or a b-sides release. Either way... there's nothing wrong with 8 tracks @ 37 minutes.

Yeah, I'm kind of talking out of two sides of my mouth. I'm usually the first guy to support shorter albums. I guess it just seems like we're skating the line between EP and LP. Regardless, I'm just pumped to have new Radiohead music. Hope this effort is as solid as In Rainbows.

Wow big Yawn on this one. 8 songs, I guess that's an album? This sounds like a Thom Yorke album with very minimal Radiohead instrumentation. It's very quiet and none of the songs are standing out to me, I suppose it will make a good headphone or falling asleep album. But Radiohead has really forgot how to rock. They seem to have this formula now where it is more about Thom's voice creating all the melodies, and cranking up the reverb with a simple drum beat.

At this point the only thing distinctive about Radiohead is Thom Yorke's voice. The synths and beats are indistinguishable from 1000 other bands. Maybe some great songs will emerge but to me this just sounds like Yorke singing over beats.

Damn
I was going to ask how this compared to In Rainbow's style (which is one of my favorite albums of all time)

The song itself isn't bad. Sounds like something Aphex Twin would have done in 1994, just with more vocals, which I like.
That video is fucking stupid, though.

yeah I would say the length isn't the #1 issue with the album. I think this time they went too far deep into their own genre that they created for themselves.

Umm...
On fist listen I'm not impressed. Some of it just smacks of artifice and pretense.
There are one or two songs that got my interest.
You need to hear things more than once, but I don't see this as being anywhere near their good stuff as of now.
Most people who've listened to that I've seen or heard from are giving bad reviews too, so I don't think it's just me.

Re: Radiohead LP8 (Possibly Out This Year?!)
I think the closest existing Radiohead work to this one is Amnesiac. I also suspect this might be the quiet before the storm as both the title of the final song on the album and lyrics in it suggest a rapid follow-up album (i.e. Kid A/Amnesiac non double double album). This record is kind of like a fever dream. Deceptively lovely in quiet, subtle ways. My favs have thus far been Little By Little, Codex (kind of brilliant) and Separator.

I just threw "These Are My Twisted Words" and "Harry Patch" into the mix as tracks 9 and 10 and it works incredibly well.

I did not know all this was going on. Taking a slight break from so much computer time, and I have to hear about this from my mother, who saw it on the news for christs sake.
I did download the album, and I actually agree with both sides of the pricing argument. Reminds me of all the fuss from when In Rainbows comes out.
As for the music, i'm going to wait till i'm in the car with my WAV burned disc. I never listen to new music that i'm excited about on the computer, and I don't prejudge based on it's track length or runtime.

Of course there's a large contingent around here who have thought if a movie is 90 minutes or less it's a piece of trash. So it goes....

Listening to it now. The first four tracks were forgettable. Lotus Flower was very good. Codex is good musically but Yorke's vocals are ruining it for me.

I believe I said Codex was kind of brilliant. Strike that. I've listened to it many times and it's one of their all time "sad ballads". Amazing.
