Wow. You're right. Glad I picked them up when they were cheap. I'll never understand why Sony gave up on SACD. They beat every other format they released to death but dropped this one over dualdiscs which I think is also dead.

I also found it odd that outside of the occasional rare release both SACD and DVD audio sort of vanished together. I really enjoyed collecting both.

As for SACD surround, if you like pop, Gloria Estefan - Greatest Hits had a fun surround mix. I enjoyed the Elton John releases, Billy Joel The Stranger, Destiny Childs Survivor and I'll listen to Bat Out of Hell though I was never wowwed by the sound quality but I enjoy the surround. i also like the Moody Blues.

For DVD-A I really enjoy Band on the Run though my friends don't approve of it because it's showy rather than proper placement of the instruments and vocals or something to that effect. It was lifted from the old Quad release. The Chicago albums sound great too.

Re: Recommend some 5.1 audio to me, please...

OK, resurrecting the thread.

I've been on a 5.1 music kick lately and was wondering if anyone knows of a site that lists 5.1 music. I found one for SACD but haven't found one for DVD-Audio or Dual Discs. Any recommendations? Want to see what's out there.

SACD site: http://www.sa-cd.net/

Thanks Giles. Didn't know about the King Crimson, will have to look into that one.

I did a little more searching and so far:

SACD site: http://www.sa-cd.net/
DVD-A/Dual Disc: http://dvd-a.info/Default.asp
http://members2.jcom.home.ne.jp/0440...l/dadsacd.html

Not sure how up to date but a start

It's never been one of my go-to albums of theirs. If available, I'd go with Red, In the Court..., or Lizard.

I'd recommend the King Crimson Larks Tongues In Aspic reissue especially the Blu ray even if you do have to get the boxed set.

I just picked up the hybrid SACD of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" and it's fantastic.

The 5.1 mix of Wish You Were Here's good but the quad mix on the Blu ray's even better imho.

When Floyd did those gigantic reissues of DSotM and WYWH, they didn't include a 5.1 mix??

Picked up King Crimsons' Lark's Tongues in Aspic and In the Wake of Poseidon in 5.1. Both fantastic.

yes in fact they did, the bluray's have the 5.1 mixes, plus the original 4.0 Quad mixes to boot.

DSotM actually had a 5.1 come out when the SACD edition came out in 2003

it's very immersive I quite like it actually.

~~

I also like the 5.1 done for the D.Bowie and the Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, but one actually has to buy the vinyl/DVD combo release.

I actually have a German SACD of this from like 2003. It's supposed to be the same version as the one that came with the boxed set.

Thank you. Did not realize they put out the 5.1 mix of Ziggy on DVD with the Record. I have the SACd but will pick this up also.

I don't have a lot of 5.1 mixes, but my favorite is Toy Matinee's debut album. One of the best sounding albums ever, imo, and remixed quite well for surround.

Incredible.

I have them all now and my favorite is Larks Tongues in Aspic. Absolutely stunning mix.

Re: Recommend some 5.1 audio to me, please...

Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree has been involved with all those KC 5.1 mixes I believe. He's been Grammy nominated several times for his surround work. It's too bad he doesn't get recognized for his actual music as well, but then I don't expect the Grammy voters to have that decent of taste when it comes to music.

There is a Blu-ray of Wilson's Grace For Drowning double album surround release. Well worth it.

there's also his upcoming release of 'The Raven that Refused to Sing' on CD and bluray, obviously the latter will be in 5.1

I have the big 4-disc limited book thing coming from Burning Shed. The album sound like it's going to be great.
