Your Top 5/10 Albums of the first quarter?

Lots of good stuff has been released. I've listened to 40+ albums, almost twice what I listened to last year already, but I haven't listened to anywhere near everything that has been released. So, what's the best stuff you have heard so far?

I got almost nothing so far this year, too. There have been some I would consider good albums, but not too many great ones. About all I've got for certain on the list so far are...

Spoon - Transference
Broken Bells - Broken Bells

Hot Chip- One Life Stand, absolutely love this, it's pretty much a lock for top ten (if not top five) of the year already, their best album yet.
Charlotte Gainsbourg- IRM
Gorillaz- Plastic Beach
Broken Bells- s/t
Spoon- Transference

Re: Your Top 5/10 Albums of the first quarter?

Been a phenomenal year so far, I've listend to a little over 150 albums so far, but as of now these are the official best albums that everyone with a soul and ears needs to own . . . .

#1. Titus Andronicus - The Monitor, I usually have an album every year that stays on top for a long time & this is the one this year. Does the rare thing for me that elevates an album to that next level when you can hear the growth a band makes. This album really shows what amazing musicians they are. This is not your radio friendly punk-pop band. 9+ minute punk influenced songs about the Civil War & New Jersey. A perfect album IMO.

#2. Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me, My favorite albums are usually the more complex ones. This is such a large scale release, you can listen to it a dozen times before you fully digest it in its entirety. Fantastic seeing all the love for her hear as most can't stand her.

#3. Four Tet - "There is Love in You", has been in steady rotation since its release.

#4. Here We Go Magic - "Pigeons" Kind of like Yeasayer but less mainstream/poppy and way better.

#5. Jason Collett - "Rat a Tat Tat", To bad there doesn't seem to be any Broken Social Scene fans here. There mastermind has put out his best record yet.

#6. Living Sisters - "Love to Live" The album I wish the redundant She & Him album was. Far superior which is ironic considering they opened for them on their last tour.

#7. Chicago Underground Duo - "Boca Negra", so awesome!

#8. Owen Pallet - "Heartland"

#9. Besnard Lakes - ". . . Are the Roaring Night"

#10. The Clogs - "The Creatures in the Garden of Lady Walton", thought there were National fans here, not sure. Matt Berninger + Sufjan Stevens is a must buy at least for me. very intricate layers of music.

Not a whole lot for me so far... there are some soon-to-be heavy rotators coming up in the next few months. As for now...

High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine

Cathedral - The Guessing Game

Overkill - Ironbound

In Mourning - Monolith

Darkthrone - Circle the Wagons

Yeah I know, and it is really Drew's band but it wasn't until Collett joined that they became what they are now.

1. Los Campesinos! - Romance is Boring (most likely to be my #1 for the year)
2. Massive Attack - Heliogoland
3. Beach House - Teen Dream
4. Shout Out Louds - Work
5. Local Natives - Gorilla Manor
6. Titus Adronicus - The Monitor
7. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Beats The Devils Tattoo
8. Broken Bells - Broken Bells
9. Hot Chip - One Life Stand
10. The Album Leaf - A Chorus of Storytellers

I like the Surfer Blood and Yeasayer album also, still need to listen to Four Tet. Also digging the Besnard Lakes.

Re: Your Top 5/10 Albums of the first quarter?

Johnny Cash's American VI: Ain't No Grave is the only album I've even heard so far in 2010. I love the songs, but something about the collection itself feels weak to me. I don't know that there are even another 5-10 albums scheduled for the entire year that interest me, to be honest.
