Peter Gabriel I, II, III, So, US, and other albums out of print?

It seems like his entire catalog is wiped out.

I checked Amazon and most of them are listed as "Discontinued by the Manufacterer"

funny since most of them were remastered in 2002.

Is Geffen planning to release new versions or did he sign with a new record company and Geffen is not allowed to distribute his albums?

Thanks for the heads up. Keep us posted if you see anything else on this. I'd be surprised if there wasn't info on some PG fansites.

Slightly OT: has anybody picked up his 'covers' album Scratch My Back? http://www.amazon.com/Scratch-My-Bac...mus_ep_dpi_lnk

BTW, looks like SMB was released on EMI this year. Maybe he did switch?

I bought Scratch My Back the Deluxe edition at Amazon with 2 CDs.

Heroes and The Book of Love are the best songs.

The album was too mellow for my tastes.

I was a little disappointed that he had been working on this "secret project" for about 5 years, and it ends up being a covers album.

A boring cover album at that

Yeah, it's pretty boring.

I'm a pretty gigantic Gabriel fan and have been for years, but Scratch My Back is the first album of his I've been really disappointed in. Boring seems to be the best word, the lack of any musical themes besides basic generic classical orchestral really hurts it, much as I love his voice, and there's a sameness to most of the tracks. It's so bloody melancholy without any of the uplifting elements I've found in his other albums.

Back on topic: If there's a re-release I hope they put out the complete version of Plays Live. The edited version that's been out for years sucks.

I couldn't find anything but they must be oop because some of them are pretty expensive at amazon and amazon canada. Not too bad at Amazon UK though, so I'd probably just buy there if I needed them now.

I've been looking for a cheap used version of Plays Live for a while now. I've had the LP for years, but also want a cd version.

Re: Peter Gabriel I, II, III, So, US, and other albums out of print?

Scratch My Back was a total waste of time. I can't believe he's been working on that instead of new material. What's really lame is that he did a full band cover of "The Boy In The Bubble" live and it was exciting and fun. Then we get this utterly boring, lifeless covers album.

The most current releases of his catalogue were all limited numbered editions, so I'm not surprised they're not available any longer.

The remastering on Car, Scratch, Melt, and So are quite excellent. Melt sounds especially mindblowing.

Keep your eye out on SecondSpin.com, eBay, or Wherehouse.com for used copies. That's where I got the Plays Live (Highlights) remaster. Unfortunately, they didn't remaster the entire double album, so you're better off with just the vinyl copy.

I found some of his CDs at ebay from some seller from Argentina but you never know how authentic they really are

I took a look around some of the sites I know, and MyMusic appears to have them available, but not very cheap:

Same with CD Universe:

Finally, you can purchase the remasters directly from PG's website, but they're not the "limited edition" versions:

Sadly, I have a feeling we'll be seeing more and more of this as time goes on and downloads take over. Sure, stuff like the Beatles, Dark Side of the Moon, Kind of Blue, etc. will stay in print in one form or another, but many catalog titles will go away. They'll just point you to downloads if you want it. I just hope the mainstream sites start offering lossless formats before it gets too bad.

Does that mean they're in real plastic CD cases, or still the same shitty cardboard ones? Because I'd almost consider buying them again if it meant real cases.

I was thinking about that last night.

Is there instances where CDs went out of print and the only way you could get them is by downloading them or at Itunes?

Re: Peter Gabriel I, II, III, So, US, and other albums out of print?

Just release a boxset of the albums (minus SMB) and include an extra disc of something and I'm in.

Re: Peter Gabriel I, II, III, So, US, and other albums out of print?

If the extra disc were to consist of unreleased live recordings from throughout his solo career i'd buy the boxed set in a heartbeat.

Yes. There's tons of OOP cds on itunes.

Concerning Gabriel, this may just be a case of the releasing deal with the label expiring and they'll come back out on another label. This happened recently with the Rolling Stones cds.

Plastic ones, I believe. The "limited" versions were in the cardboard, and I actually prefer them!

I love each and every one of these albums. My favorites are probably Security (IV) and Melt. Passion is also very underrated album, Secret World Live is pretty good as well. So was so huge that it's a little surprising that it's OOP. Universal/Geffen must be gearing up for some sort of career retrospective. A super deluxe Talking Heads "Brick" style release would be pretty tempting for me. If not, I'd like to get the remasters, the original CDs don't sound very good.

That's ridiculous. Especially since you can still purchase the albums, and they have no bonus material. They're just numbered and in a digipak.

They all seem to be available on Amazon UK for resonable prices
