Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
Awesome! Boxer was excellent. And I find it funny that National are playing two shows at the National. (I hope to go to one of those shows.)

Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
 Nice! Loved pretty much everything so far, the Virginia EP was ok for a collection of mostly demos.
|
Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
One of the best bands working today. can't wait.
|
Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
One of my 3 favorite bands. I've been listening to Clogs non-stop to hold me over until this album drops.
|
Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
one of my favorite bands, goin to the prospect park show.
I think this album is gonna kinda sound like a cross between boxer and alligator I wish the Antlers were opening up for that show, but I'm diggin the Beach House album also. |
Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
Great to hear. The past two albums have been nothing short of amazing.
Disappointed not to see a Chicago date on that schedule though. Hopefully they'll add some midwest shows later. |

Awesome tune and can't wait for the full length. Pre-ordered the vinyl yesterday and the wife and I (all 6 3/4 months pregnant of her) will be making the trip to L.A. to see them on May 22nd. |
Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
Yeah, Bloodbuzz Ohio is a great song. Has me even more psyched.
|

Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
Gave it a listen, and it has some fantastic moments (like the two songs already mentioned). I don't think anything was immediately arresting like the few on Boxer or Alligator, but it'll definitely be a a grower.
I'm just ashamed that I didn't know about this band a long time ago. I fail to see how they could disappoint. |
Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
Sheesh. I wish it was possible for me to see them with the Antlers opening. It's tough to imagine a combination of today's bands that would be more appealing.
|
Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
I don't think it's less immediate than Alligator or Boxer. This one grabbed me right away... love the consistent mood throughout the whole record. I could see this one becoming my favorite of theirs in time.

Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
Wow. I just listened to this for the first time at the NY Times website. I must say I am very impressed. It normally takes a little while for The National albums to grow on me, but this one had me from wall to wall at the start.
I can't wait to own this one. |
Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th

after a few weeks of listening, this sits right up there with Alligator and The Boxer. Damn, what a fucking awesome album. |
Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
I think every The National album has been a slow burn for me. I'll bet most people feel that way about the band. In particular, "Boxer" struck me at first as an extremely bland and uninteresting album. Then, after about three listens through, the intelligence, subtlty and world-wearyness of the songs suddenly clicked with me and it became probably my favorite album of 2007 (I think I rank Battles first that year...). The National makes adult music for adults, they're not going to pander. Once the songs get inside your head, they have immense resonance. Alligator and Boxer are albums I constantly go back to now.
I'll get the new one tonight, can't wait to listen through... |
Re: The National: High Violet -- May 11th
they are performing on Letterman tonight BTW.
