According to wiki, he won a couple of Tonys, and also has written plays and novels, including Where The Truth Lies, filmed by Atom Egoyan. He also created and wrote all the episodes for the TV show Remember WENN (which, sadly, hasn't come out on DVD).

Well, you went and made me curious about the rest of his career.

No, you're right. I stand corrected. I just wish he kept the Yacht Rock Jewfro.

A better question is who has heard the Brady Bunch's version of "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo"? It's on the Meet The Brady Bunch album, which I have on 8-track!

I have the 45 somewhere at home.
My brother, in fact, once had a golden retriever named "Boo".

Early '70s?
Exile on Main Street, anyone?
Neil Young, Dylan's "Planet Waves", Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Santana, Carole King, Van Morrison, the first two Springsteens, some great Kinks, the last great Beachboys, McCartney's Ram, Lennon, early Rod Stewart, early Elton John, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, Randy Newman, Paul Simon, Clapton, Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Traffic, Chicago, CSNY, Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, the best Grateful Dead studio albums, Yes, Poco, Stevie Wonder, Gordon Lightfoot, Genesis, Marvin Gaye, David Bowie, Todd Rundgren, Aretha Franklin, Steve Miller, Carly Simon.
That's just the tip of the iceberg. I could go much, much deeper. Some of these artists were all over the singles charts, some weren't. But all made great albums.
Perhaps that's the crux of the issue here. I don't recall buying a 45 after about 1967 or so and gave up AM radio for music not long after that. So, maybe we're doing an apples and oranges thing here.
But all I can say is, if "Me and You and A Dog Named Boo" is a "great" song, then we're going to need a whole different system of nomenclature to describe "Sticky Fingers" or "Moondance" or "After the Goldrush or Innervisions."

All the albums Jimsumner listed, with some exceptions, don't play as well when listening to one track from said album. I mean, it's better to listen to a whole Pink Floyd album than to just take one track and put it in a 70s mixer.
That's the difference between album-orientated artists and "singles-artists." With singles artists, you CAN just mix them hilly-nilly onto a 70s mix and enjoy it. Breaking up a "concept album," unless the song was a bonafide hit (like Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall, Part II"), is not always a good way to listen to great artists.

Wow. I never expected this thread to come back.
But, yea, I'm bored, too.
I understand and accept the distinction between album-oriented artists and singles-oriented artists and firmly come down on the side of the former.
But even in that context, early to mid- '70s album artists generated hit singles that were light years better than "Me and You . . ." "Maggie May," "It's Too Late," "Doctor My Eyes," "You're No Good," "Band on the Run," "What's Going On," and so many more were all hit singles, all over A.M. radio.

I remember when this Lobo tune was on the radio. This is no masterpiece--I think a lot of the stuff on jimsumner's list of great rock/pop is the real deal--but it is far from the worst song ever.
And I have heard the Brady Bunch's version--the Bradys and the Partridge Family were religiously viewed by me on ABC television when I was kid. A lot of the time they were in back to back time slots, as I recall.
"Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks and "I've Never Been to Me" by Charlene are the songs that make me want to put a gun to my head.

BTW, I loves me some "Chevy Van" by Sammy Johns. Mostly because it was in the movie "The Van".

Chevy Van is also one of those great fluff '70's tunes that I love.
