to not like this song, one would tend not to like any of the acoustic-guitar driven pop songs of the Seventies. Songs like Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot, or Chevy Van by Sammy Johns, or anything by The Eagles.

Anybody who doesn't like this song is probably a tax dodger too!

Heard it, don't love it or hate it, basically don't care.

It's not good, but Having My Baby, We Built This City, and (my personal nemesis) Torn Between Two Lovers are much worse than this song.

Gordon Lightfoot and Sammy Johns? Together? In what universe? Why not Joni Mitchell and Melanie? Or Bruce Springsteen and R. Dean Taylor?

As I said earlier, pleasant, disposable, as forgettable as, oh, let us say, Sammy Johns. I love lots of 70s acoustic-guitar songs.

But only the good ones.

I've heard the chorus of the song on countless '70s Hits' TV infomercials.

Someone always saying 'all those golden hits you cherish'.

Torn Between Two Lovers once made me cry, and ever after always makes me sad.

I have a question. For anybody who truly doesn't like "Me and You and A Dog Named Boo", can you tell me what you do like from that early Seventies era?

Re: "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo" by Lobo - who has heard this song?

Early '70s?

Exile on Main Street, anyone?

Neil Young, Dylan's "Planet Waves", Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Santana, Carole King, Van Morrison, the first two Springsteens, some great Kinks, the last great Beachboys, McCartney's Ram, Lennon, early Rod Stewart, early Elton John, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, Randy Newman, Paul Simon, Clapton, Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Traffic, Chicago, CSNY, Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, the best Grateful Dead studio albums, Yes, Poco, Stevie Wonder, Gordon Lightfoot, Genesis, Marvin Gaye, David Bowie, Todd Rundgren, Aretha Franklin, Steve Miller, Carly Simon.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. I could go much, much deeper. Some of these artists were all over the singles charts, some weren't. But all made great albums.

Perhaps that's the crux of the issue here. I don't recall buying a 45 after about 1967 or so and gave up AM radio for music not long after that. So, maybe we're doing an apples and oranges thing here.

But all I can say is, if "Me and You and A Dog Named Boo" is a "great" song, then we're going to need a whole different system of nomenclature to describe "Sticky Fingers" or "Moondance" or "After the Goldrush or Innervisions."

I would help "Me and You..." write racist slurs on the house of "We Built This City" in an attempt to make them move out of the neighborhood.

The best use of Lobo's song, "I'd Love You to Want Me" is from the movie, "If These Walls Could Talk 2", when Michelle Williams and Chloe Sevigny slow danced to it together in the lesbian bar scene.

The song is like cotton candy. It's not musical genius by any means. Just carefree fluff.

I would put it in the category with Chevy Van but I would not categorize it with Sundown which is a vastly superior song.

^^^
My brother have the single. Some radio stations banned the song because it was about cannibalism.

Which was the plan from the start. Write a single about the most unpalatable subject matter ever, get a lot of negative publicity from stations, name recognition gets out, people buy the album.

And then the single about cannibalism has the temerity of being a Top 20 hit!

Rupert Holmes would go on to write "The Pina Colada Song" and then fade into obscurity, from whence he would ne'er return.

I grew up in Philly and knew what it meant, not just a NY thing.
It was more of a thing that stations across the country owned by the same company would do.

I always change the lyrics to "You and Me and a dog named Tiger"... amuses me, don't know why.

Re: "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo" by Lobo - who has heard this song?

Heard the song many many times growing up, but now with the limited selection of genres that radio stations play, today's kids ain't got a chance. Too bad, those older stations exposed me to a lot of great older rock (not that Lobo qualifies for that label, of course)...

There was a radio station I'd listen to in California that would play 3-4 Zep songs in a row everyday and also call it that.

95.5 KLOS

Though KNAC 105.5 was more my pace, I did enjoy listening to KLOS at 8pm for Get The Led Out

But don't forget "Him!"

"Him, him, him, what's she gonna do about him?
She gonna have to do without him,
Or do without me, me, me
No one gets to get it for free,
It's me or it's HIM!"

All from memory, mind you.

Doesn't basically every classic rock station do a "Get the Led Out"? You know, just like "Rock Block Weekends" and "Traffic Jams" etc?
