Late to the party, any other invite codes?

Edit: Nevermind I'm good.

So if I were to pay the $10 a month, how does it connect me to my home library? Does it scan my music folders, add them to some playlist, then make it appear on my phone? And will it simply be a massive playlist of 75,000 tracks?

Once you're signed up, at what point do you get invites to give to your friends? Do you have to be a premium member to get invites for other people?

Anyone have any spare invites?

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

I don't think you do get invites, I think you just have to generate them through those websites. I got one for my sister through the @amanda link even though it said no more would be sent.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

No, there's a place in your account where you can generate invites. I'm guessing you either have to be a paying member, or have been on the service for a minimum length of time, or both.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

Yeah, that's what I want to know about. What are the requirements for existing members to generate invites.

Missed that completely, cool.

So, everything in your home library should already be showing up in your "Local Files." If not, go into the preferences and add the location of the files using the "Add Source" option. To copy them to your phone, you need to have your phone connected to the same Wifi network and have Spotify running. Your phone will then show up in the Devices list on the PC/Mac app. You can then choose which playlists (containing local files or Spotify files) to sync to the phone. It's not like iTunes where you drag and drop songs/artists/albums... just playlists (which is a little counter-intuitive at first, but I've gotten used to it).
That said, you can only add Spotify files with a Premium membership. If you're using the Free membership, then you're limited to only adding your local files to your phone.

Personally, I don't keep any files on my phone. If I want to listen to music, I use Spotify or Audiogalaxy to stream music. Spotify for 99% of the music I listen to and Audiogalaxy for that 1% that's in my library that isn't on Spotify. The only time I'll use Spotify to sync playlists to my phone is when I'm going on a trip where I know I won't have a data connection. It's pretty sweet to be able to load a few dozen brand new albums that I haven't heard yet so I can check them out over a weekend.

As far as I know, only Premium members (and celebrities connected to Spotify in one way or another) can generate invites. You get 2 for every month that you renew. Unlimited members may get 1 per month... not sure.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

Is anyone having issues editing songs in their library? It's separated some albums into 3 different albums because of issues with the titles. When I edit it, it won't take my changes. I have another issue with track numbers. I edit the track number in the field but it won't move the title down in the song list order.

Dan 07-16-11 02:26 PM

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

I had that issue before. Not sure how I fixed it, sorry. :(

General Tip: If anyone has a playlist that contains a bunch of full albums, press Ctrl+G to show the artwork. You can then make the artwork bigger by making that column bigger.

So Spotify won't allow you to stream from your home PC? I thought that was one of its selling points. Bummer. I'll just keep using Subsonic then. Looks like there's no point in paying for it, for my purposes, since I already have those needs covered. I'll still use the PC free app once in a while, I'm sure, if only to see what garbage Suprmallet has added to the DVD Talk playlist. :D

It would be cool if you could leave comments on each track in a shared playlist so you could see what others thought of your choices.

Does this have movie and videogame soundtracks? Namely instrumental movie soundtracks and jrpg soundtracks.

Don't you think you should be bitching about all the Wilco and Fictionist, rather than my SINGLE Numan track? :p

I haven't been on the computer since yesterday afternoon, so I haven't had a chance to bitch. Plus, I need to install this on my home setup as well.

We need some rules in that playlist dammit! IT'S ANARCHY!

Well raise my rent, suddenly there are no less than NINE Fischer-Z albums on Spotify! I take it as a personal victory. :)

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

And now THREE Morten Harket albums! It couldn't be because I added them as local files today, could it? (Is everyone seeing them?) Maybe they'll import from the UK database if a US user adds them? It just seems like a wild coincidence. In any event, at this rate Spotify will have everything I want in no time.

There are some, yes. Is there anything specific you're looking for? I'll check the US and UK databases for you.

Numanoid, those are your local files. :( It's probably pulling the artwork from the UK database, but the songs themselves are still unavailable in the US.

That said, I've seen a bunch of stuff added in the last day. I wouldn't be surprised if those albums you speak of are added sooner rather than later. You can always contact their label and tell them to get their ass in gear! ;)

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

But wait...I thought that the local files were the ones that had the artist name "grayed" out, and the ones in the database were lit up. I can click on the names and it gives me the artist profile and also the albums available and they are NOT exactly what I have in my local files. I'm confused.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

Ones that are grayed out but have the little musical note icon to the right are in your library...or at least that's how I'm interpreting it.

The ones that are grayed out with no musical note are in Spotify's system but not available to stream.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

Right. And the Fischer-Z song I added to the playlist is all lit up. Can someone let me know whether or not they can play "So Long" by Fischer-Z in the DVD Talk playlist? It's currently the 7th from the bottom.

Not available in the US, if I have a local copy I could play it.
