Several weeks into using Amazon and I'm impressed. Better UI and largely the same music selection as compared to Spotify from what I've encountered and integrates the same with Sonos. For cost reasons, I cancelled my Spotify account for the time being.

Daaaaaamn... Taylor Swift takes a 2-year break from streaming services and just happens to post her entire catalog on these services on the very day her arch nemesis, Katy Perry, drops her new album.

Well played for an uber bitch move, Tay Tay!

I'm late to the game. Started using Spotify last month. Excellent how all of my favorite lesser-known music is on there.

Would be nice if we had a Netflix-type service with such a thorough movie catalog. I'd pay $30+/mo for a Netflix with everything at my fingertips.

I figured this would be posted lol. Lots of albums did drop, though. Lady A as well. If only Katy had put out a good album, though...

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

I quite like Katy Perry's new album. Already listened to it twice now. "Chained to the Rhythm" is probably my favorite Perry song. I was stoked when I turned on Spotify on Friday and saw the Swift stuff. I have 1989 on Google Music but I solely use Spotify so it doesn't get the amount of listening it deserves.

Spotify is giving existing and new users a free Google Home Mini: https://www.engadget.com/2019/10/22/...promo-returns/

I just ordered mine. Totally free, not even a shipping charge. (Google/Spotify now have a claim to my soul, though,) My apartment is small enough that when I say "okay, Google" in my living room, the Google Nest Hub in my bedroom still answers. Maybe I'll put this in the kitchen.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

Wow. Look what you have to agree to though. Nosey and controlling much???

You agree that Google will be able to:

  • View your Spotify account data
    • The type of Spotify subscription you have
    • Your public playlists

  • View your activity on Spotify
    • What you’ve saved in Your Library
    • Your top tracks and artists
    • Who you follow on Spotify
    • Playlists you’ve made and playlists you follow
    • Your collaborative playlists
    • Your personalized playlists
    • Tracks from your Spotify radio stations

  • Take actions in Spotify on your behalf
    • Add and remove items in Your Library
    • Manage who you follow on Spotify
    • Stream and control Spotify on your other devices
    • Personalize your radio stations
You can remove this access at any time at spotify.com/account.

I guess you can always turn it off later after you get the mini. But jeez....it makes me pause.

Yeah, I have zero interest in having one of those Google things in my house. Neat offer, but no thanks.

I don't give a shit about them knowing what I listen to but I don't care for them to be able to fuck with my stuff...

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

Does anyone have a direct link to the offer? I sign into spotify on the web but don't see it. I wonder if it's because I'm on that SpotifyPremium/Hulu for $9.99 deal?

That's the same plan I'm on and I got the offer. IIRC I went to the offer page, logged in, then went back to the offer, and it showed up for me.

Try going here, click on "get individual" then "get premium individual": www.spotify.com/us/premium (I just tried it and it gave me an error saying I already redeemed the offer.)

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

Why would I want a mono speaker? I'd never listen to music through it!

Pfft, once those speakers become obsolete, he'll buy one in a heartbeat.

Wouldn't mono speakers be long-obsolete? Given their purposelessness, he should be all over them. We're being mean; he's ill.

Mono speakers obsolete? Tell that to the folks on the Steve Hoffman forum who treasure their Beatles and Stones mono albums. (actually I prefer a lot of the Beatles mono releases myself).

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

This is something that was far obsolete long before it was even made though. I can listen to mono recordings on my sound system the same way I can still watch black and white movies.

After a few years of Tidal exclusivity all of Jay-Z's albums are now up on Spotify.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

The free Google Home Mini promotion is back. I got a notification about it in my app yesterday even though I redeemed the offer from a couple of months ago. (It wouldn't let me get another one.)
