Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

Spotify just pulled out a big redesign, which I believe is currently available on iPads/iPhones/iPod Touch, the Mac desktop app, and the web player. I like it more than the old design so far.

I just wish they would fix their search engine. It is fucking terrible.

Yep, the new interface is pretty sharp. Pleasant surprise.

I didn't notice it before... but I see that the new desktop app shows the running time of playlists (and albums) now.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

Has anyone noticed Spotify deleting music? There was a track I keep in a playlist which I listen to often driving to work. When I loaded it up this AM, the track was missing. Now I can't find it at all by using their search feature. Is it possible they removed it for some reason?

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

Tracks are usually removed when the licensing agreements expire before they get a chance to renegotiate. It seems to happen more with 'smaller' releases, and not so much with music on major labels.

Also: artists/labels who don't "get" streaming decide to pull their stuff.

Yep. No different from Amazon Instant, Netflix, Hulu, Rdio.. Licensing, it's a bitch.

I figured it was something like that. Sucks too...it was a remix track and I don't remember who did the remake. I'll have to try to search it out some other way.

Rdio's Android app doesn't work on a Nexus 5 with 4.4.3 so I moved to Google Music Unlimited. It has the added benefit of Chromecast integration and pulls your music locker in as well, both nice features. I uploaded every Zeppelin/ACDC/Beatles track out there and now I can stream them as well.

The interface is nowhere near as attractive as Rdio, though.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

If you use Spotify on Android, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD.
"The Scandinavian-based service said in a blog post on the official site that although the breach was known to affect only one account, it felt action was necessary, and has asked all users to choose a new password when using the official app on the Android platform.

Spotify CEO Oskar Stal said: “Our evidence shows that only one Spotify user’s data has been accessed and this did not include any password, financial or payment information. We have contacted this one individual. Based on our findings, we are not aware of any increased risk to users as a result of this incident."

Aarrrgghh, I just noticed that all of Peter Gabriel's solo albums have disappeared.

Did they ever have them? I checked for those six or seven months ago and they didn't have any of his solo stuff.

I've noticed a lot more stuff being added recently. But we're still missing Placebo.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

I've joined, cancelled, rejoined, cancelled, several times, and now after rejoining I think I'm here to stay. It is just so EASY to use and I can share playlists. And no more burning mix CDs, just play it off the phone in the car. Worth every penny just to be able to play my current favorite songs at any time.

Amazon Prime music is a pain to manage.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

There's definitely a learning curve when you're accustomed to storing and maintaining your own library of music. At this point, I can't imagine ever going back to that. I'm FAR from efficient with how I handle my own playlists, but that's because I'm lazy and terrible, but still... I'll never 'rip' my 800+ CDs. I wish it were way easier to know which ones are still NOT on Spotify, but aside from doing a manual search for each artist/album, I don't see a way. It's just too time consuming and I don't care enough anymore. That's too bad for all the music I WOULD be listening to, if I could.

Spotify is now beta testing in Canada. The only difference I've see thus far is a bit more Canadian music than the US catalog, which is nice.

Amazon, imo, needs an interface overhaul on all their platforms. It's fine as a store interface, terrible for everything else.

It may be unintentional, especially if they allow other music services. Have you asked about it?

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

Oh, it's intentional. They've blocked Pandora and even Xbox Music.

Further, they blocked access to any form of dropbox-type service. So Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc. are all blocked. That really sucks because I use one of the above to store random things I work on from the office and from home, so now I can't do that anymore.

You know, I find, as I get older, that sometimes it's worth money to not have to spend time on something I've come to appreciate simplicity.

Access is now open to ALL Canadians.

I'm now patiently waiting for prominent Canadian artists to bitch about streaming services.

Re: Spotify: Everyone Loves Music (or "Streaming is the Future")

I've been using Spotify for several weeks now, ever since I found out about its availability in Canada. I have almost 1,900 songs loaded up in my playlist. It's set to shuffle, but I find that feature doesn't work well at all. The software isn't very sophisticated, because it often plays the same songs day after day rather than delving into the entire playlist. Anyone know why this is? A smarter program would know not to play song x because it had been recently played.

Not going to lie, as much as I love Spotify, their Shuffle and Radio features are balls.
